BANGKOK: -- Former chief of Kaeng Krachan national park Chaiwat Limlikhit-aksorn has been charged by police with abuse of authority for being responsible for the torching of the lodging of a Karen tribesman at the park five years ago.

The decision to press charges against Mr Chaiwat was notified to the victim, Mr Ko-ee Meemee, and his lawyer, Mr Surapong Kongchantoek, by Pol Col Chalit Katesrimek, superintendent of Kaeng Krachan district police after a lengthy investigation into the case.

Mr Surapong said the case had been forwarded by Kaeng Krachan police to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for consideration.

Mr Ko-ee, leader of Karen tribesmen in Ban Bang Kloy Bon in the national park told the police that a group of park officials went to his lodging and ordered him to leave immediately.

He said he refused to leave because he was blind but he was forced out anyway by the officials and taken aboard a helicopter. He was later told by his children that his lodging was torched and completely destroyed.

Naughty boy, don't you realise it's dangerous to light fires in a national park?

Being serious, typical power hungry nobody enforcing his authority.
