MOPH to screen NBT staff after rash of influenza cases

BANGKOK, 14 January 2016, (NNT) - The Disease Control Department conducted health screenings at the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) headquarters on Vibhavadi Road, after three of its employees were diagnosed with influenza.

Dr. Rome Buathong, Field Epidemiologist at the Bureau of Epidemiology led a team of Bangkok's public health officials to perform the check-ups. The officials gave advice to NBT staff on how to protect themselves against the virus. Public health authorities will also vaccinate the employees on Friday, January 15.

The influenza virus is found mostly in bodily fluids. Therefore, the virus can transmitted by sneezing, coughing or physical contact. Symptoms include high fever, muscle pain, eye pain, runny nose, coughing, sore throat, and loss of appetite. These signs usually show within a couple of days after infection.

Flu patients normally recover within 5-7 days. Those with severe symptoms are strongly advised to see a doctor immediately. Doctors have recommended that people wash their hands frequently, avoid interacting with flu patients, and exercise regularly. They have also urged flu patients to stay home for at least a week, in order to prevent the disease from spreading.
