Non-immigrant visa “O”,

I live in Thailand and have a Thai wife. My company have so far looked after my visa needs and work permit, this year I will retire. Looking on Google I seem to be getting conflicting information about the Non-immigrant visa “O” (marriage) requirements and wondered if anyone knows the current process: I know most of the process but have some specific questions:

I know you either have to have 40KTHB monthly income or 400KTHB lump sum, my question in this regard is two-fold:

  • I have to have the money in the bank 2 months before the visa application, but after the visa application can I use it so its lower than 400KTHB?
  • I saw somewhere, that the money needs to be a joint account to reduce scam marriages, but else where it said it needed to be in a single account (I have both accounts), which is correct?
  • Is there any documents available that outline the real requirments?

I live in Prachinburi and plan to use the Chachoengsao immigration office, does anyone have any experience of this place, or should I use the BKK office?

Does anyone know a reliable agent that can help me through this process?

with best regards

Colin

You can take the money out of the bank but should keep it in the bank until the extension is approved during the 30 day under consideration period.

Joint bank accounts are not allowed.

The Chachoengsao office is the designated office for Prachinburi so that is the one you will have to use.

You will need a termination letter from your employer to cancel your current extension so that you can change the reason for it to marriage. The letter should be dated for the date you plan on applying fro the extension. Where was your current extension done?

You wife will need to be with you when you apply.

List of documents required.

Two completed TM7 forms with a set of signed copies attached to each one.

Marriage certificate plus a copy. A updated Kor Ror 2 marriage registry.

Copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card.

Map to your house from the nearest main road or street.

Photos of you your wife in and around the house. One must show you both with house number of your home shown.

Proof of residence unless living where your wife's house book is for.

Some offices will want witnesses instead of doing a home visit.

I suggest you check with the Chachoengsao office to find out their requirements.

  • There is certainly no requirement for the money to be in a joint account. If anything it's the opposite.
  • You should use an account in your own name, however, some offices will allow joint accounts. If you need to use a joint account you should ask at the Chachoengsao at least 2 months before you want to apply. If they allowed a joint account they would probably want at least 800k in the account.

You really don't need an agent. Just go to the office and ask them exactly what they want. It's a very simple process. But ubonjoe has given you a pretty definitive list already.

Many thanks, this is very useful

My visa made by my company runs out in September, however, my final company ends April 31st 2016, from what you say my new visa shall start from this point, can you confirm?

I have my own house book, can I use this as proof of residence? But I'm leaving with my wife which is the same as her house book.

Do I need to confirm the origin of my bank fund? If I have a lump sum?

I'll visit my local office soon to confirm the details

Joe pretty much spelt it out.

You need a letter from your bank plus your bank book showing the same balance.

Bank acc has to be in your name only.

You need your Wife's Tabbien Baan (house book).

You will be given a month under consideration stamp while they send your application to head office.

Go back in a month and get the remainder of the 12 months.

Don't waste money on an agent. The process is really simple to do.
