"I reiterate the need to be vigilant about the deceit and treachery of arrogant countries, especially the United States, in this [nuclear]issue and other issues."

TEHRAN: -- Iran’s supreme leader has welcomed the lifting of sanctions against Tehran.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that his country remain wary of its old enemy the United States.

In his first comments since most EU sanctions were lifted along with many important US embargoes, Iran’s highest authority made it clear that Washington should be treated with suspicion.

“I reiterate the need to be vigilant about the deceit and treachery of arrogant countries, especially the United States, in this [nuclear]issue and other issues,” Khamenei said.

“Be careful that the other side fully meets its commitments. The comments made by some American politicians in last two, three days are suspicious,” he added.

32 billion dollars of assets unfrozen

Meanwhile the head of Iran’s central bank said the country is now able to access 32 billion dollars in unfrozen assets.

The restrictions were lifted after Iran implemented its side of a July deal with world powers restricting Tehran’s atomic activities.

Iran’s economy suffered greatly under the sanctions which targeted its nuclear and financial systems.

The US hasn't a clue about deceit and treachery when compared with Iran's record for the past several thousand years...the supreme greeter should get all the gusto he can get while Obama is in office...he is not likely to receive anymore freebies with a new administration...

Iran hasn't gotten any freebies while Obama has been in office. His sanctions forced them to give up their ambition to manufacture nuclear weapons. George Bush gave them the entire country of Iraq. And the US does have a clue about treachery and deceit. Why do you think the Iranians hate our government so much? Because the US with the help of the UK, overthrew their elected government and put a brutal king (Shah) on the throne. I'm not condoning their current government but understanding history goes a long way in understanding how they ended up with the system they have now and how they feel about the west.

It is indeed very suspicious and I wouldn't trust the gangster state of the world, agreed. I'd advise to turn these 32 Billion in gold and bring them back home, but I have a feeling that it won't be that easy and that hostilities will resume soon.

All this from a country that bans dancing to the song "Happy" No thanks Iran. How can anyone take a country seriously after that.

Who is to be trusted? For now I have more trust in Iran than in the U.S. where Trump (and his girl friend) is front runner for the Reps.

Actually I am not that afraid of Trump. It is his "followers" I am afraid of.

This would be hilarious if not so patently false. (The comments on Obama are however hilarious; few have given away so much in so little time). Iran is in Iraq because of Obama. Obama was in Iraq because of Bush. Bush was in Iraq because he is an idiot listening to war mongering neocons= Chain of causation. When you jump links in cause and effect you disprove your own narrative.

If any thinks Iran's hostility is solely due to actions regarding the Shah and related events they necessarily define their ignorance. If anyone thinks Obama forced the Iranians to give up the ambition to manufacture nuclear weapons they first have to overcome the fact that they admit Iran has been trying to build nuclear weapons, a fact Iran disputes. One would have to explain how any government/theocracy would ever have a shred of legitimacy after being "forced" by the great Satan to end what they have previously described as their National Right. The above poster employs history to defend his narrative yet abuses it in the process.

Iran... Persia, whatever you call "it" has had an unbroken line of islamic leadership stretching into the distant past. With variations, they all resembled the modern theocracy we witness today. 1,000 years ago Iran/Persia was also exporting its radical islam and with help killed countless millions of its neighbors- Really, countless. Estimates are easily above 100,000,000 so its hardly likely Iran today is a result of late conditions. Had there never been a shah Iran would still be run by theocratic clerics and exporting their will in the region by force. "Deceit and treachery," like terrorist or freedom fighter, may be in the eye of the beholder, but then we admit to moral relativism. Virtue and moral injunctions are not equal.
