Governor Sukhumbhand unperturbed by party’s ex-communication decision



BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra will carry on with his work despite the fact that the Democrat Party has decided to ex-communicate him.

The governor’s private secretary, Mr Wasant Meewong, said Thursday that he wondered the decision was made by the party or was it done by some individual party members.

He explained that the governor had not attended party meetings because it was against the junta’s order banning political gatherings. He claimed that the governor had been in contact with party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva for discussions on several occasions and, therefore, there was no justification for the governor’s ex-communication.

Regarding corruption allegations against the city administration as cited by some Democrats, Mr Wasant said that the City Hall had been cooperative all along with parties concerned in probing the alleged corruption cases. He added that he didn’t understand why they were raised again this time and suspected that it might be an attempt by some party members to force the hand of the prime minister to remove the governor.

The governor’s political standpoint remains unchanged and he will not retaliate against his accusers, said Mr Wasant, adding that the governor is due back tomorrow from a visit to Portugal to ink a Sister City agreement between Bangkok and Lisbon.

The inability of the Demorcats to remove Wasant as governor unilaterally has to be very frustrating. They likely have outplayed their efforts to have Prayut use Article 44 to dismantle most of the PTP leadership and government supporters. The only thing left would be an ELECTION. Leaving Wasant's political future to the electorate must be a nightmare for the Democrats.

Carry on his work? What exactly does he do beside cash his paychecks? Never see any of his accomplishments in the news. I wonder if he is related to the Governor of Flint Michigan. They all seem to put on a flack jacket and wait things out till the SStorm is over. They have no shame only power.
