Crazed driver beaten by angry mob after attacking Bangkok cop

BANGKOK:-- Quite unbelievable scenes greeted commuters in Bangkok on Friday evening.

The incident, which has been captured on video, happened outside Big C in Ratchada.

The footage shows the driver of a white Honda City park his car across two lanes of traffic, causing huge congestion and tailbacks.

The crazed driver then got out of the vehicle and went on a wild rampage, threatening other drivers and kicking out at vehicles, to the astonishment of those nearby.

A police officer who came to investigate the incident was then punched on the side of the head by the madman, before himself being set upon by a group of people who came to the rescue of the cop.

As the melee continued, the policeman manages to apprehend the attacker by sitting on top of him as he lay in the middle of the road. The attacker was then handcuffed and taken away by police.

Khaosod reports that a man remains in police custody having been charged with assault and drink driving.

All very went wrong. First crazy man actions, then opponents actions, and finally reaction of camera ladies who seemed to enjoy so much about scene. Latter worry me most.

good on them, muppets commenting their disapproval must prefer being "back home" where passers-by either pretend they didn't notice, or just film it on their phones. Thailand still has a thing called community

Frankly, I think it's more a case of not wanting to miss out on a good opportunity for a public beat down...regardless of the circumstances.

Great reaction of the crowd. Bystanders only stepped when this idiot started hitting someone. Quite some restraint.

Are you serious?
How would you have reacted?
Put guy down without extra violence. There were enough people to do that. Kicking to head mental ill guy on ground is unnecessary. There is law to punish such actions.

Thats not how group hysteria works and after blocking the traffic, kicking cars and hitting a cop, he could himself lucky to still be alive. Imagine him doing this in the US, the police would have shot him.

Maybe in US. I don't know. But as European I know solution can be different. Yes, it can happen like this. But should not happen that someone says "Well done".

Police don't use tasers in the country? The policeman should have not approached the guy like that., He would have had his ass tasered anywhere else in the world. This would have stopped the inevitable beat down that always happens here. Hope the prick gets his car impounded and huge fines.

Being drunk is a mental illness now?

I'm sure Thai police would have shot him if he was armed though. They don't seem to have a problem with that.

"Imagine him doing this in the US, the police would have shot him".

Only if he was black.

Luckily the crazy one wasn't carrying, otherwise the BIB would have been shot _ probably along with a few others ........

They should add property damage and traffic congestion.

Luckily the brainless had no gun in his pocket.

I thought the same.

But then, maybe there was already more than one gun locked and loaded ready in the crowd, waiting for the signal, the guy's wrong move...

No matter how drunk he supposedly was, he couldn't have thought he was in the right about anything after he left his car parked like that and began goading bystanders and attacking nearby cars. Seems he was letting go of anger and any drunkenness was merely the on-switch.

Often when violence erupts in assaults or shootings it's about face and there's a specific reason like an unfaithful wife or long standing dispute before the flashpoint. In this case he seemed to be offloading quite randomly once he had a reason to start.

What this shows to me is how much anger and frustration there is from normal Thais. Many things like this would have happened before the internet made them so accessible for all to see, but it just doesn't seem to fit any more that Thais are remotely 'jai yen' people or that Thailand is any kind of a land of smiles.

Given the generals' track record I really don't hold out much hope for the future and it seems inevitable that Thailand is heading for yet more mass violence.
