CDC Spokesman: News conference on draft charter scheduled for Jan 29

BANGKOK, 24 January 2015 (NNT) - The spokesman of the Constitution Drafting Commission has confirmed that a news conference on the first draft of the new charter has been scheduled for Friday, January 29.

CDC spokesman Udom Ratamarit said that the charter drafters’ meetings have made progress in reviewing each article in the draft Constitution to make sure every detail is correct and accurate in relationship to each other.

Mr. Udom said that the CDC has moved on to Section 7 of the draft and started reviewing the part which is about the House of Representatives and the Senate.

They have also deliberated on the part related to the Election Commission’s responsibility to fix and change the election day, he said.

The CDC spokesman went on to say that the CDC has agreed to put a ban on those who used to serve as Constitutional Court judges or worked for any independent organizations from serving as senators.

Mr. Udom went on to say that the CDC will hold a news conference on the draft charter on January 29 in the Second Building of the Parliament complex. They have also scheduled a meeting to explain an adjustment of the draft Constitution to the National Legislative Assembly and the National Reform Steering Assembly on February 3, before meeting with representatives of various community councils to explain the new draft charter on February 5.

Why would they ban former constitutional court judges? Do they have specific individuals in mind? I would think former judges might be decent candidates for the Senate.

Curiouser and curiouser.
