Thailand steps up MERS outbreak prevention

BANGKOK, 25 January 2016 (NNT)-Thailand has stepped up measures against the outbreak of Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

The Ministry of Public Health has coordinated with 37 airlines. They have been asked to inform passengers arriving to Thailand from countries with reports of MERS cases to strictly abide by preventive measures.

Body temperature scanners will be installed at airports to detect passengers with flu-like symptoms. An expressway for patients suspected of having contracted the virus will be set up at the hospitals in an attempt to contain the outbreak quickly.

Thai ambassadors worldwide have also been instructed to raise awareness of the Thai government’s effort to prevent the spread of the deadly virus in their host countries and assured them that it has always complied with the international standards for containing the spread of fatal diseases.

Body temp scanners? I was thinking more to the tune of them asking you a question like "do you feel sick?" upon entry. I can't imagine them spending the kind of money it would take to add more scanners . By the time they are added, Mers will bee a long forgotten disease.

They have done this previously - in fact my hospital screened everyone entering for several months during the last alert. Scanners are available.

This is so low a priority, When thousands of people die every year on the roads. But it does seem to bother anybody in Thailand ?
