Have a triple entry visa & want to do my first run to Hong Kong but how/where to make the new visa

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I need advice on my visa I have a triple entry and my first 60 days is up this month on the 29th of Jan,

Normally I go on the mini bus trip to Cambodia but this time I would like to go to Hong Kong for a few days and being as my visa is up on the 29th thought I`d just make the trip to HK but then it hit me how/where do I make the visa for the return ?

Obviously when you pay for the mini bus trip you give the guys your passport and 2 photos and its all sorted but how and where do I sort this stuff out for myself in HK or would it need sorting before ? or ??

I really have no idea could you possibly offer any advice ? Do I have to go to the Thai embassy in HK and do they fill everything out for me giving me the next 60 days ?

Thanks James

OP if this is your first 60 days then maybe you should go to any Immigration office within Thailand and you will receive a extra 30 days, this is how Tourist Visas work, after this extra 30 days you have to leave the country, any border will do, you can go out and come straight back in if you wish

You do not have to visit any Embassy to activate any part of your visa, you will receive the next 60 days when you enter Thailand again

Really ? Thats awesome so if I did go to HK on the 29th for a few days on my return to Thailand my passport is just stamped for another 60 days at the passport control in Bangkok airport is that correct ?

And the other part of your answer about getting a extra 30 days can I do that for each of the 3 entrys I have on this visa of mine effectively giving me 9 months ?

You must take care to ensure that you make the third entry prior to the "enter before" (expiry date) clearly marked on the visa.

Each 60 day entry is extendable by 30 days but you will likely not be able to use the full 30 day extension with the second entry if you wish to make the third entry prior to the visa expiring.

It seems you are confusing your permission to stay with the expiration of the visa.

You need to look at the "use by" date printed on the visa sticker you got from an embassy or consulate. If you have a triple entry visa, you will need to make you last entry before that date shown on the visa.

When you entered the first time, immigrations put a hand stamp in your passport allowing you to stay ... apparently ... to 29th January. So you need to either exit Thailand or get an extension by then.

If your visa remains valid and you've only used one of three possible entries, you don't need to visit an embassy. You can just return to Thailand for your 2nd 60 day stay. You could return immediately or whenever you like as long as the visa has not expired or been used for all three entries.

You will not get the 9 months if you leave after the first 60 days, when you arrive back in Thailand you will receive another 60 days,

The way to get the full 9 months is,

Enter, get 60 days then extend by 30 days at Immigration within Thailand

After that leave, then when you return you will get 60 days then extend it by 30 again

Repeat the process again for your third entry

As another poster said you must enter on either before or the same day as the Enter Before date stamped on your visa to activate the third entry

You do not need to go to an Embassy!

If your visa is valid you will be allowed back into Thailand and be granted an initial 60 day stay.

You do not have to visit any Embassy to activate any part of your visa, you will receive the next 60 days when you enter Thailand again

be sure when you come back to write the visa number on your arrival card otherwise they could make a mistake and only give you 30 days

Your idea to visit Hong Kong is a good one. Two things to consider:

  • Ensure you do not need a visa to enter Hong Kong. Most nationalities can get a visa exempt entry these days, but check.
  • Plan now how you will make full use of your third entry. Write down the Enter Before date on the visa. You want to make your third entry on or before that date, but close to it. If you are not traveling outside Thailand a fair bit, extending your second entry by 30 days at an immigration office in Thailand may be worthwhile. Anyway, think ahead.

Have a great time in Hong Kong.
