Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Thailand amounted to $5.1 billion during the first 11 months of 2015, according to the Thai Embassy. Cambodian exports to Thailand were valued at $592 million, up 12 percent over the same period in 2014, while Thai exports to Cambodia rose 9 percent year on year to about $4.5 billion, according to the data from the embassy.

Jiranun Wongmongkol, director of the foreign trade office at the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, said bilateral trade is growing due to rising purchasing power “from the Cambodian side and growth of the kingdom’s economy. “Thailand has studied neighboring countries like Cambodia, Lao, Vietnam, and Myanmar. After the study Cambodia saw the top economic growth of these countries,” Mrs. Wongmongkol said. “The purchasing power in Cambodia is rising with the Cambodian economy growing 7 percent annually,” she added.
