PM assigns Foreign Affairs Minister to deliver a speech tomorrow on the occasion of UN Day

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont has assigned Foreign Affairs Minister Nitya Piboonsongkram (นิตย์ พิบูลสงคราม) to deliver a speech tomorrow to mark the United Nations (UN) Day.

Tomorrow, the Foreign Affairs Minister will give a speech to commemorate the 61st anniversary of the United Nations (UN). Besides, participants to the fair will hear a speech from UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and that of Executive-Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Mr. Kim Hak-Su.

In conjunction with the day, exhibitions will be held on the topics of “Millennium Development Goals” and “His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Development Work”. A book of cartoons entitled “Our United Nations” will also be launched.

Besides, on October 24th, the Prime Minister's address on Thailand’s roles in the United Nations will be read over the National Broadcasting Station of Thailand.

Foreign Affairs Minister affirms that Thailand will restore democracy soon

Foreign Affairs Minister Nitya Piboonsongkram (นิตย์ พิบูลสงคราม) has affirmed at the 61st Anniversary of the United Nations (UN) Conference that Thailand will speedily restore democracy and will definitely hold the general election within one year.

Mr. Nitya said that Thailand willingly supports human rights and the development of peace and security as these are the top priorities of the UN. He further explained the political situation in Thailand, saying the country will try to restore democracy as soon as possible and draft the new constitution by adhering to the strengths of democracy and the improved inspection system of balance.

The atmosphere of the UN Day is lively as many people have shown great interest in the exhibition of Millennium Development Goals. Here, participants will be informed of the UN's background and various responsibilities.
