In a Facebook post on Thursday morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen implored tobacco smokers across the country to quit, using his own decade-long struggle with smoking to encourage young people to avoid it altogether.

Celebrating almost 22 months without a single cigarette, the prime minister wrote about his history with tobacco, why he started, and why he ended up quitting.

“In this post I am asking my Cambodian people to quit smoking, especially the youth. I used to be a heavy smoker for more than 40 years. I tried 12 times to quit smoking. Finally, I quit smoking about 22 months ago now. I hope Cambodian people can do it for their own health,” Mr. Hun Sen wrote.
