Bangkok, 4 February 2016 (NNT) – The Prime Minister has called for greater care to be taken in drafting the 2017 government spending budget with an emphasis on fiscal discipline and wider dispersion.

Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha has handed down policy to a meeting discussing the Government Expenditure Budget for 2017 attended by high ranking government officials, state enterprise executives and the heads of state offices. Throughout the meeting, the attendants will be briefed on the approach to be used in drafting their budgets for next year, which have been decided with an aim to achieve the greatest benefit to the public and the nation.

The premier asked that all in attendance gain a clear understanding of the changing situation of the world so that they may draft their budgets with consideration to both domestic and international factors. He asserted that the central budget must be dispersed to all local offices with efficiency and address matters in a direct manner. He affirmed that this year, drafting of the budget would be done with stringency and fiscal discipline.

A case of the blind leading the blind.

wider dispersion.

Guess this means the 2016 budget was not drafted with enough financial discipline and wider dispersion in mind. Glad to see the honestly.

I expect the wider dispersion part means hand-out more benefits and subsidies to more groups in order to make more people happy in 2017 since that may be the year the regime allows an election. It's no secret that money/budgets influence election results...election year politics always try to promise a chicken in every pot if elected.

Has to be stringent in 2017, they just blew their 1.3 Trillion wad on 20 infrastructure mega projects to be approved by September 2016

Good bye submarines, bullet train to nowhere, police guns, patrol boats, one internet gateway hello help for the drought, drought stricken farmers more money to be spent outside of Bangkok and much more. And then I woke up.

and with fiscal discipline firmly on his mind, the very next day he held a 4 hour meeting with his apparatchiks that cost 1.8Million baht to stage........

Way to go, Uncle Tu!

And how many posters commenting here have actually read the budget briefs the government posted on their website, in English?

For two years now, with nothing really before.

Now did they? Pray tell me more, for example how this government spreads mega projects over seven or so years terms with provisions for each year budgeted in each year. That's unlike the trillions Baht the previous government wanted to borrow in one go to be paid back in 50 years. Now there seem to be a better chance something get's really done for the money.
