Thailand Eatery Enters Record Books With World's Largest Hamburger

PATTAYA: -- 80 pound burger crushes previous record in celebration of the anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne.

Bob’s BBQ & Grill announced today that Guinness World Records has certified The Big Bob’s Texas Belt Buster as holding “The record for the largest commercially available hamburger” in the world.

The 35.6 kg (78.5 lb) burger satisfied the strict requirements of the record book by not only being the biggest in the world, but by also being available to diners right off the menu.

“We got the idea for the world's biggest burger because this year is the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne. What better way to celebrate than to launch Thailand into the record books?” said Bob Schindler of Bob’s BBQ & Grill.

The previous record-holder, made by Fuddruckers at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut, USA, weighed in at a wimpy 13.5 kg (29.9 lb). Bob's original idea was to shoot for a 60 lb burger in celebration of the accession anniversary, but it soon became clear that he had set his sights too low. As a result, The Big Bob’s Texas Belt Buster almost tripled the previous world-record weight.

The burger, which is available for pick-up only 12 hours from ordering, consists of a big bun made in Bob's bakery, as well as gut-busting amounts of ingredients:

• 25 kg quality beef

• 2 large heads of lettuce

• 15 tomatoes

• 4 large onions

• 35 slices of cheese

• 1.5 cups of mustard

• 1 cup of ketchup

• 4 whole pickles

• 4 whole Jalapeños.

"We are very proud that Guinness World Records, one of the world's most famous organizations, has recognized our hamburger as the world's largest," added Bob.

As well as its official entry into the world record books, a representative from Ripley’s Believe it or Not also measured the burger at a staggering 60 cm (23.62 inches) in diameter and 35 cm (13.78 inches) in thickness.

A whopper like this doesn’t come cheap, of course, with Big Bob’s Texas Belt Buster costing 15,500 baht (US$400).

$400 dollars! you got to be sh1ting me. Who would ever pay that much. Not to mention 98% of it would go to waste. As a one time thing i could understand making it, but to put it on your menu it stupid. The only ones who would orded it would be drunk and with the 12 hour waiting period they would sober up and change the mind.

Thailand and burgers go together like beer and ice. hmm.... wait a minute that actually works here.

maybe they have something here.

anyhow I would be surprise if they ever sell one.

Lighten up a bit fellas, if you were throwing a large party, the burger would be a great centre-piece. $400 is nothing. :D

I think you'll find that this burger has been made just to beat the world record as a bit of fun not as a new product line - durrrrr

I am sure that if he ever sold one of these things he would probably be quite chuffed :-)

EAT IT PATTAYA!

"Jakarta hotel puts $110 hamburger on menu"

Mon Dec 18, 2006

JAKARTA (Reuters) - A hotel in Indonesia is dishing out a hamburger that costs more than twice the monthly minimum wage in some parts of the country.

The $110 hamburger offered by the Four Seasons is made of Kobe beef with foie gras, Portobello mushrooms and Korean pears -- served with french fries, of course.

They're not exactly selling like hotcakes yet, but the hotel says it has sold 20 of the 1.0 million rupiah ($110.1) hamburgers since they were launched this month.

(Instead of making the biggest, maybe they could try making regular ones that don't taste like #%@&?)

I used to feel the same way about burgers in Thailand, until I tried Bob's in Pattaya - arguably the best burger by far in Pattaya. Fries ain't bad, either. . . .

Congratulations to Bob's BBQ and Grill.

The world-record holder for greatest eater of burgers is 'Sonya Thomas' and she can eat a 9 pound burger in 48 minutes. So I reckon that she could eat this one in a few days.........

I really love to watch those "Competitive Eating" contests on telly, don't you? :o

It really is a wonderful advert for our culture.....

-Well, it would be if that little pesky Japanese guy didn't win every time! :D

Yes, I love to watch the competitive eating competitions.

Some people dismiss it as vulgar and say: "that is not sport" ; but to watch a human being eat 46 mince pies in 10 minutes is an almost transcendental experience.

P.S. That Japanese competitive eater is a biological 'cheat'. He has a stomach that hangs very low within his torso, so his capacity is about 5 pounds more than Sonya Thomas.

:D
