Is it possible to get a single entry visa in Vientiane now and has the requirements changed?

Hi there,

I have a Swedish passport containing a previously transferred ED visa and a double entry tourist visa which soon expires. There are no red or blue warning stamps in this passport.

Is it currently possible to get a single entry visa in Vientiane and has the requirements changed? Will I be asked for additional documents?

I have been there a bunch of times on my own in the past prior to this and they have never asked me for additional documents such as ticket in and out of Thailand or bank statements. Has the times changed completely or only with regard to the double entry tourist visa disappearing?

I am wondering if it still is most likely that I will receive a single entry tourist visa without being denied. I was there with an agency once but I have been there maybe 7 times without an agent and received my visa. Please note, that was with my old passport, this passport is still relatively new, see above.

What do you say? Do I need an agent now? Can I still go on my own? Will they ask for a copy of a ticket in and out of Thailand and bank statements these days? Please advise. I know it can be uncertain but if you can give me an idea of the probability, say 50-90% probability of receiving a SETV or not, that would be nice.

The requirements for a single-entry tourist visa in Vientiane have not changed.

Vientiane does not allow an agent to be used.

You need to apply in person, process is streamlined now.

They will ask for fill out application form, 2 pictures and a couple of copies.

However using a tour agency from thailand makes the trip more comfortable, specially for newcomers and people

who are unsure about the whole process.

A seasoned traveler like you, will have no problem in getting a new SETV from Vientiane or Savannakhet.

I'll sorta hijack the thread since it's related: do you think I'd be able to get a SETV with two back-to-back double entry ones already in my passport?

The were doing 3 back to back 2 entry visas before without a problem so I see no reasons for you to have a problem getting a single entry now.

Rumour is from a Phuket website that embassies / consulates will allow 3 SETV's in a row if they are extended (90 day usage), and more if they are not extended (60 days and perhaps not really consecutive).

From the same embassy / consulate that is.

Time will tell.

Why repeat something you acknowledge is "rumour" and which therefore has no substance in fact ?

Because as you very well know information that government puts out is always unreliable. Even what ubonjoe said with the 3 double entries before, that was an unwritten rule.

I'm not gonna have an argument here when the MFA website still states you are only allowed 90 days out of 180 and has not been updated since 2008.

Older visa run companies have contacts in Immigration so I see that sort of information more credible rather than what is coming through official channels. Such as "the METV has been invented to promote tourism".

Hope I could answer your question :)

You will need copies of your Lao visa & Lao entry stamp as well as the passport info pages (but you can get them right there). 'Don't know if they've updated their website downloads, but you may need to use the appn form they hand you rather than the one you can download.
