NLA sets up committee to tackle nepotism

No need for a committee, there is a national super expert on this subject just waiting in the wings along with his reformed nasty thug sons.

This is the super expert who wrote the nepotism manual.

Just ensure there's a free flow of ear medicine.

You mean the Thaugsuban family and the nasty thug sons.

Did you have too much of his ear medicine Khun Eric...? Or just the usefull twisting? 'But, but Suthep', when 'scorecard' is pointing at Chalerm and sons?

If we are having some sort of nepotism Olympics here then everyone is going to win gold.

Reds, yellows, army...they are all at it boys and just as bad as each other. Give it a rest.

Yes. Thais can win gold medals. Hopefully the Olympics recognize the typical games played in LOS. They the pride can be well earned.

So Thailand currently has a junta that has both practiced and given approval to this very thing they are now saying they want to rid the country of...http://static.thaivisa.com/forum//

Ah but that's different surely and because, because... can I have some time to consider a suitably ridiculous justification ?

Having got what they want the junta is now showing leadership by considering how to prevent bad people abusing their position and privilege in future.

That was exactly my point to quote the Thaugsuban thuggish sons that all reds, yellow, green and blue practiced nepotism and all bad. But Shin haters just can't accept that and give the "but but" monotonous repeative posting just for the sake of getting into the thread. They must be bore stiff nowadays.

Contrary to the spokesman's belief, nepotism is not good for running the country for precisely the opposite reasons cited.

If it is common practice to hire relatives over other applicants, it is inevitable that time and again people who are not up the the job will be taken on......the effects of this are quite plain to see in so many aspects of Thai government and business where over and over, you encounter people who simply don't have the necessary ability or qualifications to do the job they have.

It is a leach on the back of the Thai nation

Well said, many good and important points.

IMHO perhaps the most negative factor of nepotism is appointing unqualified, insincere, not interested in anything other than what goes in their pocket people to positions of power / positions which should be occupied by people who have the right knowledge and experience but also have insight and can develop visions of better ways / better policies, all aimed at the development of Thailand into modern times with benefits for all Thai people.

Look at Singapore, now even more than a first world country, a world leader in education an preventative health and a lot more, for several decades sincere clever visionary people with the right knowledge and insight have led these ministries. The positive results are obvious.

At one stage here in Thailand the minister for health was chalerm, no further comment needed. And governments of all colors are guilty of the same serious errors.

We have it at my school (a publicly funded school), most of the admin. staff are from one family.

All of them would score 1/10 for aligned knowledge, experience, and even less than 1 in terms of interest or desire to contribute, and in terms of student care etc. Most of them break all the rules, come to work when they feel like it, dressed inappropriately, try to talk to them and school / student matters and they just sit there and play with their smartphones, and more. Nobody would dare say one word of criticism, your employment would be cancelled immediately.

ah ok so, I assume, someones wife will no longer work in an Army post? brother too? that's good news and many of us will be delighted at this show of fairness I won't even mention all those 'friends' in government positions.

it does occur to me, though, that an unelected military junta is one of the very highest forms of nepotism available on the planet if not THE highest

Go ahead with any opportunity to rant.

You mention: "But Shin haters just can't accept that and give the "but but" monotonous repeative posting just for the sake of getting into the thread. They must be bore stiff nowadays.".

1. Many many posters have posted many many times that appropriate action should be applied fairly and equally to all colours, flavors whatever.

2. Your quoted comment could easily be twisted to make the same comment about you!

3. " ...just for the sake of getting into the thread..." is this perhaps a comment about yourself? It fits quite nicely.

I'm sure all appointments made by the junta were because those involved were the best candidates, best qualified and professionally sound etc.

Since no future government is likely to possess such integrity it's best to get some safeguards in. ?

Just wondering how nepotism might be rooted out in Thailand. Other than the obvious brothers, sons.etc, what to do? Do a database search of employees maybe? Entering Thai names would stop the search completely - Thai surnames are nearly indecipherable with complexity + variant spellings used within family. Given names? Well, everyone has a nickname.

Lotsa luck to this committee - which probably has no intention of discovering/eliminating 1 relative from the roles and little brother has nothing to worry about....

Point taken.

There are other possible approaches; much better more clear regulations about 'best person for the job', or broken down further:

1. The selected person does have knowledge and skills, at an appropriate level ully aligned to the outputs expected from the job.

2. The selected person does have past professional /operational / managerial working experience at an appropriate level and fully aligned to the outputs expected from the job.

3. The selected person does have a fully satisfactory / or for some positions a better than fully satisfactory level of valuable past job achievements and fully aligned to the outputs expected from the job.
etc.
Plus for all persons selected for jobs there must be a complete and comprehensive record and a copy sent to a review committee which includes respected public committee members, and permanent employment is not confirmed until the selection documents have passed the review committee.
etc....
