Howdy, I have a question regarding OVisa based on marriage and would appreciate any advice. Last year for the first time I received my multi OVisa from the Thai Embassy in Sydney Australia based on marriage. No probs. Before the initial 90 days for this visa was up I applied for my first extension based on marriage here in Thailand using a popular local visa agent. The agent was aware of my requirement to return to Australia regularly throughout the year and I assumed the returned extension was in order to do this. Turns out a stupid assumption. When returning from my Christmas trip home, I was surprised going through Thai immigration that I was only stamped in for 90 days until April 2016 instead of the extensions expiration date in October 2016. I approached my agent a few days later after getting a run around for any explanation at the airport, and he pointed out that there was no multi-stamp in the passport. Bloody hell. Live and learn. I know little about these Visa's and assumed he did. Anyhow what are my options now? Do I need to leave the country before the 90 days are up or can I re-extend it again? Should immigration have stamped the multi in when doing my extension? According to agent they should have. A bit late now and confusing. Lesson learnt!

You were very lucky to be given a 90 day entry !

The extension of stay requires you to have a reentry permit if travelling outside the country, Leaving without the reentry permit effectively cancels the extension.

You will have to apply again if you want the extension but you should also ensure that a reentry permit is purchased.

There is no need to employ an "agent" the process is a simple one.

  • You should have applied for a re-entry permit when you applied of the 1 year extension or at the airport before leaving. That is the only way to keep an extension of stay alive when out of the country.

It sounds like you have a multiple entry non 'O' valid for 1 year but applied for a 1 year extension of stay at the end of your first 90 day stay. If you were given a new 90 day stay when you last returned you are here on a non 'O' entry which means you can apply for another 1 year extension of stay based on marriage within the last 30 days of your current stay.

The extension and the re-entry permit are two separate things that have to be applied for.

After you get your extension stamp you can apply for a re-entry permit. The fee for a single re-entry permit is 1000 baht and a multiple is 3800 baht.

Best advice we can give is Stay Away From Agents.

Easy enough to do yourself.

Apply for the extension during the final 30 days of any permission to stay. 1,900 Baht.

Apply for a Re Entry Permit at the same time.

3800 Baht multi and 1,000 single.

Many many thanks. I think you have hit the nail. I understand your advice now. So I need to re-apply for an extension in the last month of the 90 days I was given? Here are some pics of the stamps and my original visa to confirm.
