Very Sarcastic Temple Banner Prompts Drug Busts

SURAT THANI — Police in Surat Thani province were goaded into raiding the community for drugs after a local abbot erected a banner complaining about rampant drug abuse in his temple.

Between Monday and Tuesday, the operation netted a dozen suspects and came in response to a scathing banner which sarcastically invited addicts to share drugs with the monks at Wat Thanon Suwan Pradit, a police commander said.

It is a parasite on society , and attacking the problem from another angle well done,

Should put up one concerning immigration visa, renewal, extension, 90 days reporting etc at the chiangmai immigration

It is written in the style of the banners advertising temple fairs and merit-making and the like so the translation does not do it full justice as a native Thai would see the association and hence the sarcasm even more than a literal translation shows.

"Come on in, you can take [drugs] and deal too.

Drugs of every kind in the temple grounds.

Donate them to the monks and novices too.

You will make enormous amounts of merit.
