Bomb trap kills a soldier in Yala

YALA: -- A soldier was killed and five others were injured as a home-made bomb was detonated by southern militants in Krong Penang district of Yala province this morning.

The soldiers were on their routine patrol on the village road at Ban Baejang to give protection to teachers.

As the patrolmen arrived near the village, a 15 kilo bomb was detonated.

Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) police are blocking traffic on the road as they move in to clear other bomb traps that could be remained to hurt EOD and police.

Is there a particular religion behind this.....?

how long will this go on soldiers guarding teachers in the dangerous south risking life and limb day in day out ,I have come to the conclusion that the south should be given autonomy and barred from entering the rest of the country and to remain completely isolated.

Yes, this is a problem when you have young kids drafted into the military. They are, in a real sense, 'innocent'. But this particular act is no different from the mines and missiles and drones and high altitude bombs our own countries have used in the past or are still using today... no more 'cowardly'. The people responsible are insurgents who, in their mind, are fighting a war of independence. At least, in this case, they targeted soldiers and not truly innocent civilians.
