As long as it takes.........The reason I answered in that way is because it is the decision of the Embassy...there is no set time as each application is different.

Indeed... however, i didn't ask "how long will this take", i asked "how long does this usually take". I realise the processing time is different for most people, which is why the embassy generally provides statistical averages and means, which are generally a good indication; at least far better than 'as long as it takes', which is more or less an empty tautology.

Another person told me between one week and 3 months, so i'm guessing theres an average of about 6 weeks. For further conversation on the topic, other posts in the thread continue along these lines briefly.

They will request an AOS before it goes for a final decision....they wont send an application for a a final decision unless the application is complete...there is a guideline for an AOS to be requested regarding the income of the sponsor...but generally if you have a reasonable paying job then you wont have a worry.

I am also wondering... is it perhaps because it is only a fiance visa that they did not ask for it yet. I'm not particulary worried about this because i already have several people happy to fill it out if needed, but i'm just curious if they are not doing it now because it is only a temporary visa; and that they might ask for it when we apply for the later spouse visa.

Remember we cannot give exact answers because all applications are different...we can only give at best, estimates based on our own and others experiences.

Remember, i never asked for exact answers, because all applications are different. I'm sure MsFreddles will be back here apologising for me again, but perhaps this time it isn't so out of place.

I cant see an AOS being requested for a spouse visa following the fiance visa grant unless your financial position changes....this is because you would need to be able to support her for upto 9 months or until the spouse application is made.

Time usually taken for an application...previously was around 4 months from date of application, however we have recently received reports of a much shorter period of time in some cases...some as short as 4-6 weeks. We believe that this is due to a reduced workload at the Embassy due to the issuing of 12 month multi entry tourist visas removing the need for the embassy to process so many tourist visas.

As it has gone to final decision, then one would expect that you would receive some news in the very near future.

Freddles, it would be better for you to work in a private school here. You might even like it here and decided to stay here, because what you and you girl could earn here, you would be able to have alot better standard of living here than back in Oz. So yeah, if her visa gets rejected, come here, teach, see how you like it and take it from here. Then you could be with your girl while you wait for her next application to be approved.

I do like it there, i just went to holidays there and loved it. except for the heat... that sucked. but everything else was great. You said before i could get a good job without TEFL... do i need to have done TEFL to teach english there? Or is that just one path to teaching?

A TEFL and degree is required to get a teachers liscence here, which you need before you can get a work permit. Some places can get you a liscence and work permit without, but schools like that are hard to find. So if you dont have a teachers liscence and work permit, you would be working illegally here, like 90% of the other teachers anyway :o

But yeah, if you have a degree and TEFL, it would help you get a job. The key to getting a teaching job is being white, having a good smile, being polite and dressing well. If you can do that, you will get most of the jobs you apply for.

we got our Fiancee visa approved 2 months ago. We applied on 21st April 2006 and after I sent a follow up email on 15th August 2006 the visa was approved on the 21st August 2006 (4 months).

They did not call us or ask for any further info after the interview.

This may have got faster now as other post have said but this was our experiance.

Hi Ozspike. I'm Freddles girlfriend. We plan to give our case officer a follow up call at the end of November (if we still dont hear anything from the embassy by that time). We really hope that we will know the result before December because my case officer told me very clear that my case should be finished before or during this December after the interview. Do you think we can believe what my case officer tell us... from your experience?? .. (Hopefully, she wont bullshit us!) :o

I very much doubt that a 50K baht a month job will fall into the lap of a 20yo without a degree and Tefl. (It's not that easy WITH a degree and a TEFL). Probably more importantly, you will have problems with visas, WPs and licences without adequate qualifications. Stay in Oz and get them BEFORE going to Thailand - you won't regret it in the longer term if you end up having to move to Thailand.

Good luck

So what are the job prospects for someone who can't speak thai, with no degree or TEFL?

Pretty useless or what? but if it seems reasonable that i can get a job, its better than waiting 3 years before being with my fiance again...

Most schools perfer it if you cannt speak Thai. You are there to teach English ( not Thai ) and the schools would not want you to speak Thai in the classrooms. In most cases, you will have at least one, maybe two or possibly even 3 Thai teachers in your class to Translate to the students, so they do not want to hear you speaking Thai ( you may also get in trouble at some schools if you speak to much Thai in class )

I told you before, you can get plenty of jobs without a degree or a TEFL. A TEFL course does not take long to do and by having a TEFL, it would be easier for you to get started any. At least if you had a TEFL it would not be as bad as not having anything. But wothout a degree, unless you school is connected and can pull strings, you will most likely not be able to get a work permit ( meaning you would be illegall like 90% of the other foreign teachers here )

Dont worry, you would be able to walk into a job here within 2 months at the latest if you wanted. If you can get a 1 year Non Immigrant O visa before you come here ( based on your relationship with a Thai ) most schools would instantly employ you, regardless of qualifications, because as the visa rules just changed here, so many of the illegal teachers without visa's will leave, so by having a 1 year Thai visa in your passport, this will be highly favored by the school.

Check the website www.ajarn.com for jobs and details about teaching in Thailand.

she got the visa (!). From the time she applied to the time they called her was 1 month and 6 days.

I guess giving them all the correct evidence from the beginning was why it went so fast, no waiting around for police checks to be processed and stuff.
