Ex-national jumps coach makes leap to Thailand

Obidko tasked with winning medals for Thailand at SEA Games 2017

SINGAPORE — After spending more than a decade grooming some of the Republic’s talented young athletes, former national jumps coach Valeri Obidko has now moved to Thailand for a new challenge.

Last September, the 52-year-old was contacted by the Athletic Association of Thailand (AAT), who offered him the national jumps coach position. After much thought, Obidko decided to take the role and has been based at the AAT’s headquarters in Thammasat University Sport Complex in Rangsit, an hour’s drive from Bangkok, since the beginning of the year. His contract will run until the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia.

While the Russian-born Singaporean was offered a part-time post at the Singapore Sports School (SSP), the chance to work with some of the best jumpers in the region was too hard to resist. Thailand is a track and field powerhouse in South-east Asia, consistently finishing at the top of the athletics medal tally at the SEA Games.

I clicked on the thread just to see what on earth they were running on about after reading the headline

what's with the lame puns in some of these titles? is someone trying to display their superior knowledge of English (not)

Anything to hvae a large area with sand or some such in it ( can not use pit as it might offend all those olives out there)

Coach found dead after reading headline in Thaivisa forum Royal Thai Police rule it suicide. Victim was found with hands tied behind back and 3 bullet wounds to the temple. Now that makes sense.
