One soldier injured in roadside bomb explosion

NARATHIWAT: -- A soldier was injured after southern militants detonated a roadside bomb aimed at killing a group of soldiers on a routine foot patrol on Highway 4057 in Sungai Golok district of Narathiwat province early Monday morning.

According to Sungai Golok police chief Pol Col Kong-at Suwankham, the incident happened on Highway 4057 from Sungai Golok to Tak Bai district.

As a group of eight soldiers from Special Task Force 36 was patrolling the highway on foot and near Nan Turlame village, a home-made bomb hidden at the power post was detonated.

The explosion injured a soldier identified as Sgt Teerapong Kwathai.

Traffic was sealed off immediately to facilitate explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) police to inspect the area as they suspected more bombs might be left behind to harm EOD team.

The injured soldier was admitted to Sungai Golok hospital.
