You seem to think that the Thai tax issues affect only wealthy individuals and ignore the vulnerable, average and aged expat pensioner retiree who has no experience of managing or filing tax returns. This is why I mostly ignore the never ending debates about CRS and foreign DTA's. My interest lies in trying to help the average and below average member, many of whom are deeply scared and confused by all things foreign tax related. My past tax, finance and Big 4 work experience, combined with the fact I have lived in Thailand full time for over 20 years, may be of help to some of that group. I have no interest in the tax affairs of people like you and others who talk in terms of buying 1,000 Apple and being concerned at the tax implications when you sell, or the large dividend payments given to you by your parents. If you can afford to buy 1,000 Apple you can also afford to put your hand in your pocket and spend 20k at Ernst and Young and get the best Thai tax advice that money can buy. So exactly why you even bother to log onto this thread, especially given that you live full time over 8,500 kms away. is extraordinary, to say the least! If there are members of AN who risk millions in tax as a result of CRS, they must be some of the cheapest rich people on the planet, in order to have such wealth yet seek tax advice from a social networking forum! I am personally aware of at least two AN members who talked in terms of self harm and required support and intervention, such was their fear of what might happen to their paltry income in retirement here as a result of the tax changes. Meanwhile, you talk about the millions at risk overseas by wealthy expat, dear Lord, we're not even on the same planet, let alone the same subject. I will be very happy if you wish to add me to your ignore list, that way my contributions wont interfere with your enjoyment. -

Ok, so where would you rather live? I had some very good friends, both passed on, but who were staunch communists. You know, defend Stalin, lovely eastern Europe full of happy people etc etc. Famine, what famine? But would they go anywhere near the Soviet Union, or latterly, Russia? Absolutely not! Because they were old school, they saw the world through a purely ideological perspective. It didn't matter what the Soviets did, it could only be for the common good. I find this completely duplicitous and delusional. I don't think you can compare Putin's extremely repressive policies against journalists, indeed, against all Russian citizens, with anything in the West. He started a war (yes, he did) which every Russian I've met in Pattaya, and there are a lot, absolutely hates. Many are in Pattaya for that very reason. And it's a war against his own ethnic group, while claiming a sort of holy war against Kiev's Nazis who would prevent Russians from speaking Russian. Hitlerian, to be sure, casting Ukrainians as the untermensch from which oh so racially pure Slavic Russia needs to cleanse itself. Only one link this time, as I concede most reports on the war are heavily biased one way or another. It's impossible to tell fact from fiction. It's also impossible to tell the exact state of the Russian economy, support for the war, or support for Putin, as nobody dares to say a damn' word in public for fear of arrest. This is his MO. Monks Struggle to Carry Coffin Through Floodwaters for Cremation Amid Chiang Mai Floods
A group of monks and novices in Chiang Mai were forced to carry a coffin through deep floodwaters on October 5, to ensure the cremation could proceed. The event, which took place at Wat Pa Phaeng temple, highlighted the ongoing challenges brought by severe flooding in the region. Floodwaters have continued to rise in Chiang Mai, inundating key areas, including Lanna Hospital and Kawila Military Hospital. Many residents and travelers were left stranded, particularly at the Arcade Bus Station, as roads became impassable due to high water levels. The flooding, caused by the overflowing Ping River, is now being reported as the worst in recorded history. A social media post from Wat Pa Phaeng’s Facebook page detailed the difficult journey of moving the deceased’s body from the ceremonial hall to the crematorium. In the accompanying photos, monks and novices could be seen wading through the water, carrying the coffin through the flooded temple grounds. The temple is located near Muang Mai Market, an area severely affected by the floodwaters from the Ping River. Despite the adversity, the monks’ dedication to their duty underscored the strength of the community in the face of the natural disaster. Meanwhile, authorities are continuing to monitor the rising water levels as they work to provide aid to the flood-stricken areas. Six-Year-Old Boy Drowns After Falling into Water Retention Pond in Chonburi
A 6-year-old boy drowned after falling into a water retention pond while playing with friends in Huai Yai, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The incident occurred at 15:00 on October 5, at a large retention pond that is part of a local flood management project. Police Lieutenant Nevin Suntuwanik, along with rescue teams from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation and a water rescue unit, were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a child drowning. The pond, which is about 3-4 metres deep, required divers to recover the body of the young boy, identified as Montree, nicknamed “Pok,” from the bottom of the pond. A security officer at the site, Mr. Watcharapong (surname withheld), aged 47, recounted that two children came running to him, shouting that their friend had fallen into the water. He rushed to the scene and saw the boy struggling to stay afloat but was unable to rescue him due to the slippery algae-covered edges of the pond. The boy’s mother, Ms. Dao Chuan, 35, a Cambodian national, was devastated by the news. She explained that her son had been playing outside as usual but rushed to the scene in panic upon hearing that he had fallen into the water. She expressed deep grief over the loss. Authorities have transferred the boy’s body to Bang Lamung Hospital and are awaiting family arrangements for the funeral. Teenager Suspect Dies After Jumping into Minburi Canal While Fleeing from Police
A 17-year-old suspect died after escaping police custody and jumping into the Khlong Saen Saeb canal while being escorted to the Minburi Juvenile Court. Authorities launched a search operation before discovering his body submerged in the water. On October 5, Police Lieutenant Colonel Pichitpol Ratchakom from Minburi Police Station received a report of a 17-year-old male suspect who had escaped custody while being transported to Minburi Juvenile Court for a review of his arrest, which had occurred on October 4 at 13:50. Police Colonel Krit Komnoi, the superintendent of Minburi Police Station, ordered an investigation and visited the scene. It was revealed that officers from Minburi Police Station were escorting the young suspect, who was facing charges of nighttime theft, to the court for a formal detention order. While in custody in front of the Minburi Criminal Court, the suspect broke free from the officers, as he was not restrained due to his juvenile status. He fled the area, running toward Khlong Saen Saeb behind Minburi School. Police officers and security personnel from the Minburi Criminal Court pursued him closely and alerted patrol units and investigative teams to assist in the chase. During the escape, the suspect jumped into Khlong Saen Saeb. A security officer from the court jumped in after him, but before the suspect could reach the opposite side of the canal, he submerged and disappeared underwater. The police, along with security personnel, began searching the area and called for the assistance of Rom Sai Foundation divers to help locate the missing suspect. After an intensive search, the suspect’s body was found in the canal. Forensic doctors have been contacted to conduct an autopsy, and the suspect’s family has been notified.
