PATTAYA: -- On Thursday afternoon a fire completely destroyed a new 200 Million Baht Muay Thai Boxing Stadium located in Central Pattaya.

The fire took hold of the “Max Muay Thai Stadium”, located on the Sukhumvit Road, late in the afternoon and left the Manager of the venue and 3 other staff with minor burn injuries.

10 Pattaya Fire Trucks responded to the emergency and it took firefighters more than 1 hour to bring the huge fire under control. An investigation revealed that earlier in the day the Air-Conditioning External Compressor Units had been serviced and the gas contained within the units had been replaced.

Max Muay Thai boxing stadium in Pattaya burned down

1802005-wpcf_728x409.jpg

PATTAYA: -- Five people were slightly injured in a huge fire which burned down the Max Muay Thai boxing stadium in Pattaya Thursday afternoon.

Pattaya police said that the fire started from the roof of the boxing stadium located at the entrance of Sukhumvit-Pattaya Soi 42 in Tambon Nong Prue, Banglamung district.

It was believed that the airconditioning machine at the roof exploded and started the fire which quickly spread out and eventually engulfed the entire boxing stadium.

Ten fire engines and a fire-fighting tower were rushed to the scene to fight the fire which was put in control about one hour afterward but the stadium was already burned down.

Damages were estimated at about 200 million baht.

My first thoughts also, business is slow in Pattaya and the low season hasn't started yet.

Yep... low season would be making it difficult to keep up the repayments on the Lambo............

Oh well

But there is one good thing,

The Traffic chaos that place used to causes on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

in-conjunction with the Tunnel project, lane restrictions .

will be slightly better now. thumbsup.gif

Good thing this happened when there was no fights on.

Imagine the carnage if the venue was full.

On a side note a relatively new venue like that should not burn like that, but then again........

Every night i pass the venue is always packed. The bus parking around back also full. From the outside it looks like business was good but until you know the costs vs expenses hard to say

How could that building have cost 200m to build?

I think they need to find new builders

it included the cost of the lambos parked outside..... i expect all will be laundered clean now as a total loss on the tax return this year

How does an air conditioner explode (with combustion). what is combustible in one of them?

Lack of over-pressure devices and temperature cutouts (inconveniently stops when too hot) delete or bypass, over-gassed due to incompetence the refrigerant is full of lubricant as well as gasses which at certain temperatures can be flammable.

Add to this substandard wiring and lacking earth or earth leakage protection and this can result.

I would suggest poor design number one cause contributed to by the recent sub standard service work.

Old news, reported this yesterday.

Also doesn't seem this topic mentions the sink hole at the intersection of Pattaya Tai / Third Road?

What does a sinkhole on Tai and 3rd have to do with a torched building on Suk road ?

Well, he has got a point. There are numerous boxing stadiums in Pattaya. Like all great cities in the world, there are detractors.

The owner is a seriously rich bloke, 200 million, no real biggie for him. Like all seriously successful people there will also be detractors.

The Pattaya bashers come out of the blocks quickly on this one. First of all it was an "iinsurance job because the low season hasn't started yet". People who don't know, the place has been packed out. Fights are broadcast on national TV from there. The place was booming, like the rest of Pattaya. Pattaya's tourism was up again 10% last year, off an already high base.

I think part of the problem is people see our hedonistic lifestyle here and are intimidated. The flash cars, this bloke had Lambos etcetera, the hot women, the mansions, the non stop party. In the last few years the Bangkok Thais have seen it and it also becoming more popular with them. We can't built the roads fast enough for millions who flock here every year.

Although The World of Rubber nearby creates quite a problem exactly where the roadworks causes a bottleneck.

Large tourist coaches coming in and out and even stopping on Sukhumvit where the lanes are reduced anyhow.

I never went through there at the times of The Stadium creating the problem.

I wonder if they will sell the 10ft statue of a boxer, would look great in my garden!

Nothing, my point exactly.

Maybe people with higher powers could explain.

Large AC units have piston compressors that can have crankcase explosions. Oil in crankcase is combustible.

You Betcha it was insured. They realized they would never make a profit, so they let the insurance companies pay! A normal

Thai business decision.

Just watching Channel 7 morning news.................not insured according to them................ouch!

Cant be true, ive just read a dozen TV members say it was deliberatly burnt down for the insurance money. They dont talk crap.

Unless cash was paid to build it surely it would have to have some sort of insurance otherwise how would finance be approved ?
