My family in the U.S. lives approximately 4,100 miles from London. What exactly makes you think my father should wake up in the morning and think about your country (that he defended while in military service)? Or where your country is for that matter? We get this from Canadians as well. Nothing against the Canadians, my mother's sister and her family live there and I have a number of great friends there. But what makes you think we need to know anything about you, your problems or where you live? The high school education I received was just fine, although it did not teach me to meddle in other people's affairs, and prepared me for university just fine as well. It seems egotistical, narcissistic and vain to believe that people must be stupid, or ignorant if you prefer, because they don't know much about YOU! You do seem to care a bit too much what Americans think of you, though.

I would argue, simply from the shear amount of positive engagement and cooperation around the world, that the American people care an inordinate amount about the rest of the world. It is a shame that some people from other parts of the world only seem to focus on negatives about Americans. Could there be some kind of subconscious jealousy, or are people from those other parts of the world simply stupid, or ignorant if you prefer? Perhaps it is their high school education? <deleted>?

serious progress economically then they must allow for integration of foreigners in Thailand as a full member of the culture not a fringe element.

Why would a foreigner want to invest in the future of Thailand when they are not guaranteed a future in LIFE here in Thailand

I've seen this a lot during my life, the standard of high school education in the USA is abysmal, most of them don't know the difference between Australia and Austria and it's not until they go to college they learn anything about the rest of the world.

At a guess I would venture that your grandpappy was in the south and enjoyed having slaves. As an American and a long time resident of Thailand- I am well aware of the Thai -American relationship. These relationships are built on what is in the best interest of each country. I am sure Mr Obama understands well the Thai situation and all the nuances that go with it. I am also sure Mr. Prayut also understands why the US must speak openly about Democracy. What is interesting to me is that both the US and Thailand suffer from much the same problem. It is called money politics. Elections in both the US and Thailand are bought by the wealthy, for the wealthy on behalf of capitalistic vested interests. If the General could solve that problem, the coup may have been worth it. It is the same in America, and that is what the next election will hopefully bring out in the open which is a real need for change. The problem in Thailand and America is that there are very few people who can be elected that really want the change. It is the avergae person in both countries that demand it.

The TPP is a perfect example of the US creating a trade pact that will support American business..The Thais are right in being suspicious of it and moving slowly- The pact favors the business community in America and will raise prices on imported goods needed in Thailand such as Pharmaceuticals. In addition, America's interest in the Asean region stems from the need to counter Chinese influence. China is a clear and present danger. They need huge resources to keep their population docile so the Communist party can remain in power and their plan is get these resources from Asean.

Regarding the debate stated on American education versus British- I must agree with the Brit that American secondary education in many places is poor. Your level of education in America is dependent upon where you grow up and as schools suffer from decreased budgets- it is the students who suffer. It is hard to believe that the US can spend $630 Billion on the military but cannot provide enough funds for a first class secondary education system. However, when one goes onto college- the education system is top notch- if you can afford it. Here again, it is the inequity in America that rears its head. While there is some inequity in Britain- I find that most Brits have a good education and are able to become college educated without becoming indentured servants to the State. It should also be noted that both the United Kingdom and the USA need each other now more than ever. We both have a common background- but Americans need to understand that the center of the World is not always in Washington. D.C. Americans can learn much from other countries and certainly from the British whose history has influenced World events greatly.
