Had the suspected poisoning 3 days ago now. ( I posted further down). I'm still not feeling so good, gas/ burping and strange / slight abdominal pains. Left and right under rib cage. As I'm going on holidays on the 4 March to Koh Chang for 8 days , and Bangkok for 3 days before flying home, I'm wondering if I shouldn't see a gastroenterologist , I'm in Pattaya now. I'm a bit worried about going to an island which only has a small clinic.Maybe I'm being too fast in assuming something as its only 3 days ? But just in case it's not completely better in the next two days ( could be gall bladder ???) could anyone give me the name of a good gastroenterologist here in Pattaya , in case it's something bad and I need to cancel and go home to France.thank you all , and Sheryl, for your good advice.

Wise to get it looked into before going to Koh Chang if yo ustill feel unwell.

This doctor is good but she is only there on Sundays

If you don't want to wait, can see her at Bangkok Hospital, Bangkok though, most days.

Aside from GI causes, if the pain is continuing, abdominal aortic aneurysm needs to be ruled out. This can be done on the same ultrasound that would detect gallstones (but be sure the technician knows to look for it as well as gallstones).

It can easily take a week to feel better. I understand but don't over diagnosed probably just food poisoning. Take some antibiotics as a precaution. I think a Gastro Doc is a waste of money after just a few days.

Hello sheryl, First thank you for your help. Bangkok is quite a way from here in Pattaya. And of course I've missed Dr Varocha here today unfortunately.( Sunday). Is there another good gastroenterologist here in Pattaya ? I suppose I will need a doctors appointment first, and then the ultra sounds etc ??? Thank you again for your time.

No, she is the only GI specialist I can recommend in Pattaya. But she should be there next Sunday which is still before you leave - and would allow some more time to see if your symptoms resolve.

Alternately you could get a check up package inclusive of abdominal ultrasound in the meantime - especially good idea if you have not had a check up recently. Would suggest doing this at Pattaya Memorial since they have the records of your recent episode. No appointment needed but you have to fast. The check-up package that includes ultrasound is expensive but I am pretty sure you can get a lower end package and then the ultrasound as an "add on".

My son is an emergency room doctor. He always travels with "Cipro" a broad spectrum antibiotic available in any Thai pharmacy. One in the morning and one at night. That's all. Do not double up. Cipro is very powerful and can cause liver damage in doses higher than prescribed. 500 mgs for an adult, twice in one day, 10 hours apart. That's all you need for Bangkok Belly. Two pills. Re stomach problems. I eat salads only at the restaurant Oh Ka Jhu where they grow the greenies right in front of me hydroponically. I never get sick there. So once a week I eat a huge green salad with fried fish and skip the Death Fries in favor of more salad. Japanese dressing. Yes, I have tried all the other salad restaurants. But Oh Ka Jhu is healthier for my tummy. Other people like Salad Concept. Cheaper. I eat Dolly Fish there and take a container for the potatoes. I refrigerate the potatoes over night so I get resistant starch, not just starch. Oh, you guessed it. I'm diabetic so I can't eat warm potato salad or the delicious ham and fruit salad at Oh Ka Jhu. I have heard a lot of whining about Oh Ka Jhu being crowded. They are crowded because everyone wants healthy greens. So eat lunch at 11: 30 or ask for the back room next to the fields (not air conditioned) which works for me until March. Then I prefer lunch at 11 a.m in the dining room with air con. Service a bit slow? Take an iPad and chill. Order water with ice.. that comes fast. Read a book. Take photos of the lettuce. Take home a salad with dressing on the side. Good for two people. Rim Ping Meechok Plaza has wild caught canned Pacific salmon. One can = 80 grams of protein. Enough for two. So you get a huge Oh Ka Jhu salad for dinner with healthy salmon.

He has already had a course of norfloxacin which is same drug family as cipro.

the problem in the OP's case is that it is not certain he had food poisoning. If he did, then certainly just need tincture of time to feel better. But he had no diarrhea, no vomiting, only abdominal pain and it seems the abdoimnnal pain is persisting. Hence there is a possibility that something else is going on.

Hi, while not in pain, I am going to go to Pattaya memorial to book a basic check up with a full abdomen ultra sound for tomorrow. I know one has to fast. I can feel something ( slight pain) behind my rib cage, left and right, and am burping, or wanting to burp. I have no fever, no nausea, small bowel mouvments as I haven't eaten much. My colour and eyes look fine. I'm a little bit weak. I had a full check up with ultra sounds etc CBC middle of December in France before leaving. They were all clear. Would gall bladder or pancreatic problems have come up on those tests, or can they come on suddenly ?? I still don't know if it was food poisoning or not. Of course, my main worry is that I get another attack on Koh Chang where there is not much medical services.

Thank you all.

You're reading to much into this or perhaps a little panicky? You have no pain, your not doubled up on the toilet whilst vomiting at the same time. I would just go to the chemist and them supply you the full range of Medicine for food poisoning, antibiotics etc. The antibiotics should clear up what ever you have or you just may have a simple virus

Gallstones would have shown on the ultrasound you had in Dec. So should an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

There is really no reason to suspect pancreatitis from what you describe but if you want to make sure have them add a serum amylase to the blood work. It will not have been during your prior check up nor will it be part of a standard check up package but should be possible to add.

Neither the prior check up nor the one you are about to have will detect gastritis.
