Work Permit Advice Required - 2 Yr Secondment

Featured Replies

Hi all, I am after some advice on the process of attaining a Work Permit for a 2 year secondment contract in Thailand. I work for a multi National Org but they as yet do not have a site in Thailand. To support a key customer my management are looking to possibly place me on site at the key customers site in Thailand, for Engineering support, for a 2 year period.

When I have looked into Work Permits it seems that they all refer to an office/location in Thailand and yet our company does not have such, and at this time are not looking to set up a representative office.....so, what options have I for attaining a work permit to support this secondment....?

I have tried to trawl the internet but no clarity for this scenario so would really appreciate some help if you can

Thanks you to all in advance

You need to be employed by a Thai company or a branch of a international company registered in Thailand. The company you are being seconded to should be able to help. If not contact a manpower provider company in your industry to work it out.

The reply above really covers it. You could try contacting the One Stop Service Centre for Visas and Work Permits to see if they have any suggestions. There are some loopholes that can sometimes be used for foreign experts, but it will be easier if you can just arrange paperwork that shows employment by your customer for the duration of the secondment.

Thanks for the quick feedback..... I will contact the OSOS team and see if they have a method to support this as I am sure that we are not the only ones in the same predicament ....... Cheers

Easiest way is the customer supplies it - however if they do this they will have to pay you a minimum salary. There will be a definate cost to then to do this.

Your company would have to work with their customer to find a way to reimburse them.

There would be no need for a minimum salary unless he applied for an extension. He could get a multiple entry non-b visa to avoid that requirement.

He is going to need a work permit. Will have declare some Thai income. Would not what to do 90 day entry stamp runs for 2 years to say nothing of immigration doing a raid at work place a find you doing work, which is not allowed on "B" visa 90 day entries without work permit. I know several Koreans that spent the night in CDC a few years ago trying this.

There is no minimum income requirement to get a work permit. I never mentioned not getting a work permit.
