City Hall to move against vendors at Pratunam, Ratchathevi and Ratchaprarop

BANGKOK: -- Vendors at Patunam, Ratchathevi, Ratchaprarop and New Petchaburi roads have been marked as the next target for cleanup by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

The city administration’s deputy city clerk Mr Chakkaphan Piew-ngarm said Tuesday that represents of the City Hall and relevant agencies would meet on Thursday for discussion on how to deal with vendors at the aforementioned sites now that the city administration has imposed a new order on trial basis at Pak Klong Talard flower market.

At Pak Klong Talard, vendors can park their cars to unload and load their produces during 8.30 pm until 4.40 am of the next day and they are allowed to sell their produces at designated areas only. Any violation will be used as an excuse for the City Hall to completely ban their trading on pavements and they will face eviction.

Mr Chakkaphan disclosed that there are about 1,000 vendors at Pratunum, Ratchathevi, New Petchaburi and Ratchaprarop roads and they have posed an obstruction to pedestrians who are forced to walk on roads instead on pavements.

Ratchathevi district chief Chatri Wattanakhechorn said the district had already imposed a new order for vendors at the Victory Monument by restricting their trading grounds to designated zones.

Those who breach the rule by trading outside the designated areas will face a fine of up to 2,000 baht, he said.

Earlier, the city administration has successfully evicted most vendors from pavements at Klong Thom and Sapan Lek areas.

Once the vendors have been cleared out, as elsewhere, I wonder how long it will be before the condo developers move in?

Not long, I bet. Watch this space...

"Pedestrians forced to walk on the road". Should always be a good enough argument to remove

Ever take a walk down Suk 11?

Absolute nightmare at night.

You end up walking in the middle of the street many times due to the foot traffic.

Ridiculous beyond belief...

And then there's our Moto-Taxi guys obstructing everywhere as well.

I like the vendors but agree being forced to take your life in your hands by having to walk on the roads somewhat disagreeable. So when will they start prosecuting cars/motorbikes/samlors parking on walkways?

We need the street vendors ... tourists want the street vendors ... but they do need to be managed ...

and what about the hotel on Petchaburi that uses the sidewalk as a restaurant? (Someone is getting paid-off)

Speaking of having to walk in the street in on-coming traffic ... What about the motorbikes blocking the zebra crossings ... can those ### cops leave their AC booth long enough to make them clear the crossing?

And how about those two idiot cops that every night send cars coming right out of big c into the first two lanes and into oncoming traffic?

Freaking chaos night after night all around in this damn place.

So where and how will these vendors live

If you have ever tried to walk on the sidewalk past these Vendors; you would not ask, and not care !

I'm still waiting for a big condo at ratchathewi, right infront of the other ones and right next to the bts on that empty field.

Those vendors can go upcountry somewhere, why everybody has to come to BKK and make it look like a big stinky dump?

They can also find a normal job somewhere in a mall or factory or hotel.....just like all other people do around the world.
