A construction worker charged over a death threat on Facebook against an academic leading an investigation of the politically-sensitive demarcation of the border with Vietnam was found guilty by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court and sentenced to 18 months in prison on Tuesday, a court official said yesterday.

Court clerk Ly Sokheng said Phorng Seyha, 27, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for violating article 233 of the penal code and fined 1 million riel (about $250). Mr. Seyha’s sentence was, however, suspended by one year and he will be released from prison on March 6, Mr. Sokheng said.

Sun Sokly, an officer in the internal security department, said that Mr. Seyha had been arrested for threatening to kill Dr. Touch last August.
