Nok Air cancels more Chiang Mai flights today

BANGKOK: -- Nok Air continued to suffer from pilot shortage forcing it to announce more flight cancellations today.

Latest announcement issued by Nok Air on Thursday said it will cancel two round flights from Don Mueang to Chiang Mai today.

Nok Scoot Airlines will fly passengers on the four cancelled flights instead, it said.

Meanwhile Nok Air chief executive officer Patee Sarasin admitted of the resignation of its pilots but refused to specify the number.

He said the resignation was the result of the current restructuring of the organisation and assured that all problems would be resolved by end of this month.

By March 1, he said everything would return normal.

According to Bangkok Post, at least 17 Nok Air pilots have quit the company, a day after the airline’s top executive dismissed as false an earlier report about pilots quitting in response to recent flight cancellations.

It quoted a source at Nok Air said that, as of Tuesday, as many as 17 pilots tendered their resignations which will take effect next Tuesday. The company has a total of 192 pilots.

According to the source, more resignations are expected following the Feb 14 strike.

Following the Feb 14 work stoppage that affected 17 Nok Air flights and about 3,000 travellers, Nok Air dismissed three pilots.

Key reasons behind the strike included problems ranging from pilot shortages to disagreements over structural changes to the airline.

An airline where the pilots or ground staff are not happy, could lead to a disaster

owing to disgruntled employees.... not good.... if your life are dear to you, stay

away fro Nok air until things will culm down....

"Nok Air cancels more Chiang Mai flights"

Perhaps more accurate to say that Nok are now consolidating flights on this route, and operating them with the larger aircraft of their joint-venture with Scoot, to free up their own flight-crew for other routes.

At least the passengers will only suffer the lesser disruption of their flights being rescheduled.

There are a lot of unanswered questions looking at this Nok Air debacle. Foreign Aviation authorities call out thai aviation as not being up international safety standards. The thai aviation authorities have no choice but to raise their game and meet international standards. Nok Air begin a reorganization to improve safety. They fire some pilots who went on strike because they didn't like the reorganization. Well thats what we are told. Now 17 more pilots have resigned. Why? Is the renumeration so bad that they don't want to continue? Are these 17 pilots not up to scratch and its better to resign than to be fired/released by Nok Air as it applies more rigorous standards in the near future? What airline would want to hire a Nok Air reject? Whereas a pilot that quit because Nok Air was not up to their standards will be looked at in a better light? I am only speculating but Nok Air should be a better airline when they get through this mess.

That can happen with any airline.

Best to put a notification alert in place.

Right, like Air Asia? 5555 They are famous for announcing plenty of flights and at the last minute cancelling them and giving you a place on an earlier or later flight!

True,

Last month we had booked a flight with Air Asia from Don Muang to Surat Thani.

After checking in, Air Asia postponed the flight by 3 hours.

We had the car ferry already booked to Koh Samui.

Result: Ferry missed, lost money for the ferrytickets and an unplanned night at a hotel in Surat Thani.

The consequences of delays for there customers....., they give a sh......t.

Although i have flown to many different places and countries over the last 40 years,i have never been entirely comfortable with the terminology that is used.

I mean why do they have to call the place 'a terminal'?Never having flown with the airline in question,i have never taken much notice of them, but it made me

certain never to fly with them, when i was told that NOK is lawyer speak for 'next of kin' Ha!

I with you brother. Nok Airlines has screwed me time and time again. First time , I came back from the states I had two bags. One was at the 15k limit and the second one very light. The girl at the counter instead of telling me to step out of line and take some weight out of the heavy bag and put it in my carry on, she just indiscriminately told me I had to pay for over weight ( 1400 ) extra baht ( already paid 1500+ ) for the ticket to Ubon. The problem would have been solved in 60 seconds! But no she just rammed it up my !@#. This is the kind of treatment you get from NOK. Then I paid for front row tickets to see Eric Clapton ( who cancelled ) because of the coup and Impact gave my money back but not the round trip tickets from Nok to and from Ubon ( 6000+ ), then on a trip back from the states i purchased a ticket home to UBON and I told the ticket counter girl I wanted a ticket to "UBON RATCHATHANI" and sher gave me the ticket and told me to hurry hurry it was loading now so I didn't look at my ticket ( never trust a Thai ) and ran through security and on to the gate and when I got off my plane I was in UDON THANI. I had to argue with the supervisor for 40 minutes just to get a lift back to BBK for free just to pay again ( higher price than should have been when I wanted to leave ) to get back to UBON RATCHA THANI.

Now, I'm taking my wife to the States for appointments I CANNOT miss. I had heard about the 3 pilots NOK had a problem with and read the government stepped in to fix the problem. Bought tickets that day and that evening heard on the internet that NOK airlines still having problems.

I already have my tickets to the states and if they have a problem and don't get me to BBK 12 hours B/4 my flight I loose my $ from Korean Air.

So I had my wife call NOK and the people tell us to call the morning of our flight to see if things are OK. I just wanted them to give me an earlier flight to make sure we would make our flight out of BBK. So I went to Ubon airport the next day and tried to get my flight kicked back to an earlier flight and they said they wanted me to pay an additional 2750 (the original tickets 2550 ) to get an earlier flight. I declined and they told me to call on the 1st of March to try and correct this. So the next day ( today ) i read on TVF that 17 pilots walked off the job. I had my wife call and NOW they are willing to take care of us. Got the tickets set back to a point where my flight doesn't go I have time to take a bus and make my international flight.

This AIRLINE has some severe problems. I suggest that everyone VOTE with their WALLET. That is the only thing they will understand. The international aviation community has standards and NOK is NOT doing that. Pilots need to KEEP their hours in compliance with international standards. Cheers.

They sent me an sms message to cancel my return flight portion Don Muang to Khon Kaen for this Sunday 28.

They do not answer their phones after holding for an hour. I think there problems will put them out of business eventually.

Once Nok settles all this, if they can, look for some really deeply discounted promotions in the following months...making it irresistible for all you swearing to never fly Nok again to say "Ahh, What the heck!" and book a super cheap flight.
