Feedback on Thai-China rail system collected in Khon Kaen province

KHON KAEN, 25 February 2016 (NNT) – The Minister of Transport has chaired an opinion collecting forum for Khon Kaen residents concerning the development of the Thai-Chinese railway.

Minister of Transport Arkhom Termpittayapaisith has chaired the opening of a third seminar to disseminate information and take in opinions on a standard railway connecting Thailand and China. The meeting brought together over 400 residents of Khon Kaen province representing its private and public sectors.

The minister said that the rail project is crucial for the basic transport project of 2015-2022 and will make Thailand a center for logistics in the region once it establishes a connection to China via Lao PDR. He indicated that the rail connection would reduce capital costs for goods transport and benefit the industrial sector, agricultural sector as well as tourism. He especially detailed that Khon Kaen would become a center for transport for ASEAN.

The rail project will total 845 kilometers from Bangkok through the northeastern provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima and Nong Khai and will serve as the basis for a high-speed rail link between Thailand and China in the future. The terms of an agreement on the joint project are being finalized for the first leg of the system from Bangkok to Nong Khai

The next opinion session will be held in Rayong province on March 2.

How long is this scam going to last.whistling.gif

Hate to spoil your barstool fun (that it will not happen) but the project has already been awarded for the Korat to Khonkaen double tracking so it is a no brainer that the Khonkaen addition (to some extent) will occur, particularly when you consider the alterations that they will incorporate in the already awarded project.

How far it goes is not clear, but what is clear is that things are already moving.

Awarding and dirt flying are two different things. There is no dirt flying at the moment unless you count the smoke from governments and the media.wink.png

The project has been awarded. If 'dirt flying' is classed as the award of a 1,670 Million THB project that was signed by all parties in Dec '15 with works commenced in Jan '16 among the contractors then so be it.

This was one of 2 major projects were awarded last year with 2 more expected this year. I realise there has been a lot of BS and there no guarantees of what may lie ahead towards project 'completion'but things are slowly moving now.

A much discussed project that is still being discussed and will be for a long time to come.

We already have a train to Nong Khai that gets little use. Why do we need the Dim Sum Train. Remember the Chinese will build and operate for 3 years. This means about 10,000 Chinese and the relatives will come and probably never leave.

I believe the projects you are referencing are part of a Thai initiative to install dual tracks where needed on their existing lines.

The Nong Khai - Bangkok high speed line has not yet been finalized, with a hitch in the agreement on loan terms.

But they held a ceremony, and planned to plant a flag, only a couple-of-months ago !

You have doubts if the Chinese will leave? Really? Of course they wont leave.
