Clearing overstay without a ban?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am trying to get a bit of clarification regarding overstay. I have overstayed since last July and am trying to clear this now. If i leave Thailand via Laos/Cambodian border and pay the fine, will I get banned? If I fly from Bangkok back to Sydney will I get banned?

now i am back on my feet I would love to clear this problem, and stay here with a visa and gets things sorted. I know the new rules come in on March 20th regarding overstay but am unsure about if I will be banned now.

Many Thanks in advance for any help given ..... before the comments come, I know I'm an idiot for getting in this position but unfortunately lost everything to my lovely ex-Thai wife.....

No you won't be banned . Get to airport. Pay fine and fly out. Personally I would not go to border by mini bus or whatever. You can fly to several places obtain a setv and return no problem. Do it now mate

Second topic on the same subject ?

  • As long as you leave before March 20th, from any border, you will not get banned.

You should leave via an airport as, I believe, some land borders won't let people with long overstays leave.

You will not currently get banned. Bad luck with the Ex but lucky you are in a position now to sort it out. No need to fly to Australia but might be better to deal with it at the airport and fly to Laos for a new visa.

Good advice but flight to laos expensive. Better alternatives. Saigon especially or penang

Probably going to be plenty of these with MAR20 only a few weeks off now. 'Would think it the greatest service to those seeking the help to keep these consolidated into a single topic.

Can't ask for e better straight forward piece of advice. Don't listen to those "I have a friend that ......................" pay the fine at the airport, fly out, nd come back in with a proper Visa.wai2.gif

Thank you very much to everyone for the advice, it is much appreciated. I fly on Tuesday to Vietnam for a few days then will return and get back on track. Best Wishes to everyone.

Well done James. Stay in district 1 and enjoy the vibe and the 8000dong 400ml Saigon green in cafes. That's 13baht a pop. If you intend getting a setv to come back to los make sure you take PRINT OUT of your flight INTO los. Must be hard copy. Easy peasy. You won't need ongoing flight unless they have recently changed rules.

They required ongoing flight or bank statement the last time I was there.

Interesting BritTim. Must of changed. Most folk going there for setv would prob not wish to have a flight out planned and many maybe plan to extend setv. Great if bank statement would suffice. If not I guess you would have to book the cheapest flight X bkk virtually on spot. Then print out email.

BTW for anyone that forgets their flight print out, there is travel agent across the road that are helpful. They will printout your flight confirmation

Go as soon as you can. Fly out . Do not use a land border.

As to your return to Thailand without an onward ticket if just wanting a 30 day tourist visa, be careful,

the OP is correct, they are starting to get tougher, in particular as they will see exactly what you are doing by the paper trail in your PP.

Remember, the rules are up to them, you may get lucky, or unlucky
