In a few days i'm going to Kuala Lumpur, will stay for a couple of days.Since my thai tourist visa will expire(so far in my passport i have only 1 single entry visa that i've made in Cambodia+original double entry that i've made in my country before coming to Thai on June 2015).I want to make single entry visa in Kuala Lumpur.

Among passport, visa application and photos the additional documents i would provide them are as follows:

-confirmation of hotel in Malaysia

-proof of airplane ticket out of Malaysia back to Thailand

-proof of rent apartment in Bangkok(valid until August 2016)

-proof of airplane ticket out of Thailand on 25.May 2016

I cannot predict what the embassy in KL will want to get a single entry tourist visa. It seems to vary from day to day or from person to person.

What you listed should be more than enough but they have asked for proof of income and a letter from an employer to get one recently from some applicants.

KL are reportedly difficult when it comes to issuing tourist visas. My personal opinion; I don't think giving proof of renting in Bangkok will help your application unless it's just for period of your tourist visa stay. If it's a long term contract I wouldn't use it as tourists, typically, don't rent long term.

No, your documents will not be sufficient. Do not go unless you have the following:

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR TOURIST VISA (TR)

Purpose: for Holiday or Vacation

Qualification:

Applicant from any of the listed countries must have Permanent Residence in Malaysia.

Required documents:

1. Original passport valid not less than 6 months with a copy of information page(s).

2. Visa application form duly filled out with one 4x6 cm. sized photograph (white / blue background taken within the past 6 months).

3. Original Letter from employer to certify the employment.

4. Original letter for bank account confirmation from the bank and Bank statement.

5. Confirmed air ticket and hotel booking.

6. Supporting documents, i.e.,

6.1 Letter from the school/college/university certified by authorized school director and affixed by the seal of the school/college/university. or

6.2 Letter from the spouse and copy of marriage certificate and spouse identity card.

Nonsense and an indication of an inability to read or understand the website that was pulled from.

The people listed in the pdf there should apply on their home countries or hold PR in Malaysia.

For all the others, they will be asked for proof of employment (I quote: "But I don't work in Malaysia" "But you do work somewhere right?" and bank account statements. Possibly certified by your Embassy.

Also, like it happened to me, you could be told: "but you don't need visa from here, you can get visa on arrival (in my case) or visa exempt for free".

Some of you guys want to gamble, fine, give it a shot, I did back in 2014 and many others have reported negative experiences. But if anyone believes otherwise, or that the information on the website is inaccurate, try your luck and report back.

As stated an inability to understand the website or to have the ability to identify the obvious errors on the site is an indication to others to ignore what you post.

PS : That list or that page has been modified with the correct visa fee (150 RM) as of September 2015, so although some embassies or some websites have errors or are not updated, based on my own experience and other members' experience, I am assuming it to be correct.

I would personally not try to apply for a tourist visa in KL. However, it is a fact that some have successfully received one with only confirmed ticket out of Thailand. As uj says, it is totally unpredictable.

I bet the staff in KL just loves that all the advise on TV recommends having other consulates/embassies do their job for them. How about for the next six months everyone only goes to KL only, to bury them in paperwork and give Vientiane and Penang a break? I hate when lazy wins.

Please let us know how it works out. I would either allow extra time on plane ticket, or [even safer] just modify your plans to leave out of Penang about 3 days after you would have normally left from KL (take coach bus/train to penang). A little extra work, but no surprises.

What visa do you have?

Hello guys OP here.I'm in KL and my single entry visa application was refused, same as for all other people who were there(well most of them that i saw). I will be travelling to Penang in 2 days,is it easier to get visa there? I have no other choice.( I have previously done 1 single entry in cambodia plus first one double entry that I've applied back in my country,so total 9months).

Not a surprise at all.

You will have not problem getting a visa in Penang. You can use an agent and not need to go to the consulate.

Was a reason given for it being refused? You shouldn't have a problem in Penang.

That's the funniest thing.I have all the documents + airplane ticket of out Thailand in 2 months.Bank proof I have about 150.000baht in my bank account(which should be enough). They wanted my employment letter,I said I'm currently not working how the hell can i have employment letter(I spoke very politely though). So what, basically if you don't work you can't get single entry visa even if you have some money in bank??load of BS that's what it is.I hope I wont have problem in Penang,if I do I'll have to go to Laos/cambodia with airplane and apply there lol.I don't even know if they have airport there.Fck

So when i posted the other day that Embassies can use discretion to find reasons not to give a visa and i said "Employment", you mods deleted my post perhaps because I sounded agressive to another member here that was calling my posts nonsense.

Well, at least it's good to get the clarification that nothing has changed since 2014.

Good luck to the OP, Penang should not be a problem.

I am sure you'll be fine in Penang. They don't ask for proof of employment.

They most likely did not wish to add to the collection of visas.

The vast majority(Most) of tourists only stay one or two weeks before returning home.

As said you will likely be given a visa by Penang.

I disagree. I did not have a "collection" of visas back in 2014 and they were using the same employment line.

If I am not mistaken, the KL Embassy became this restrictive after different people were discovered in Thailand using stolen visa stickers from KL in 2013.

Were you granted a visa back in 2014 without providing employment details?

Not everyone is asked to provide employment info. Why is that?

No I wasn't. It's the only place out of quite a few that refused issuing me with a Single Entry tourist visa in 2014.

Nationality may play a part in it, I do belong to a group of countries that do not benefit from a visa exempt entry but a 14 day VOA so maybe they are more restrictive to those. Although I am under the impression other people from other countries may have encountered issues.

As I have posted before, it was like: "you need letter of employment". "I dont work in Malaysia" "But you work somewhere right?"

The tone in her voice and the way she was acting made me come to the conclusion that even if I came back the next day with a foreign document, she may have found another excuse.

It is my belief that they are using their discretion selectively as they see fit or they issue this to only certain nationalities, PR in Malaysia, employment in Malaysia or Malaysian nationality. What are the exact guidelines, I wish I knew. Because the websites are not helping.

My previous visa history consisted of a 1 year multiple nonB and a 1 year extension, although I don't believe that to have played an important role. If I knew what they were thinking I would also know if I am wrong in that assumption or not.

They certainly seem selective and clearly aren't that fussed about visa revenue!

There was a recent report from a Malaysian being denied the METV and he was apparently told they weren't issuing those to anyone!

Posted

I also tend to believe that with an agent (although I have no knowledge of that personally, but I guess if they are found in Penang they could be perhaps found in KL), there is a possibility you may not need anything anymore. It's only an assumption, but I see in other neighboring countries that the use of agents appears to make some Embassies "more understanding" or "less restrictive". Not always but in some cases. And when you go by yourself you need this and that and that.

There is so much room for this discretion, both at Embassies and here locally looking at the Thai laws, that it reinforces the idea that nothing has actually changed, it just became more expensive. Money still talks.

So i think for "do it yourself" we should stick to the already known places, and for others stick to agents.

Posted

PS: I am certain that "some" Malaysians will get METV. I believe a selected few with heavy bank account balances. Much more than 200k baht, I'm guessing minimum 1 million baht but it's just an unconfirmed guess at this stage.

Or it could be used as an alternative to people that don't quite qualify for the non B, like some places in the UK used to recommend a "triple" before.

We were fortunate to get a SETV in KL back in November, but had all supporting documents including bank account statements, marriage cert and a letter from my husbands accountant saying he had a business at home ( Northern Ireland) which he would need to return to . We even brought the kids birth certs!

No problems for us but tht is not to say it is the same for everyone, I just want to say that KL do issue some visas
