Hi I need to do a visa run next month, I have used visa companys before and gone to Viteinene it's 7000THB

I need to save a bit of money at the moment, is it a lot cheaper for me to do it myself including buses hotel and tuk tuks

This is what I have worked it out to

100THb to the bus station

700THB for a bus to nong khai

60THB to get to the border

1300THB for the loas visa (in us dollars)

20THB to get across the bridge

200THB to get to the embassy

150THb to get to the hotel

1000THB for the hotel

150THB to get back to the embassy

1000THB for the visa

200THB to get to the border

20THB to get across the Bridge

60THB to get the bus station

700THB to get back to pattaya

100THB back to my condo

300THB for 3 meals what the visa company would pay for if I used them

This comes to 5760

If I have worked it out right it dont seem worth all the hassle

I am better of using the visa company as I get a better hotel and maybe some good drinking friends and they do the paper work and I get picked up at my condo , but that if they go on the day before my visa runs out,if I am going to loose any more then 2 days on the visa I have now it's not worth using them IMO

Dose anyone know of a cheaper way or a cheaper visa company,or have i got the cost wrong for doing it myself?

Is it cheaper for me to go to a different country? This might be better as I have been to Viteinene 2 times in a row now a double and then a single

Also do I have to book the bus in advance and if I do where from?

I know I can fly to undon thani quite cheap but I think that means at least one extra day in a hotel as I don't think I will get to the embassy in time to put in my application in the morning ,which will then mean one extra day out somewhere

Thanks

Taxis to embassy and back can easily be shared, many people going there and leaving from there to border..

You can also chose a hotel close to embassy and walk or take a tuck tuck to your hotel.

In downtown Vientiane you can find rooms at 500B booked on agoda.

Some says Vientiane only accepts 3 in a row now.

Steve, I know you most likely need to go soonish. I just looked at AirAsia flights to udon. March 1 back march 3. 890baht each way.

I go to udon often (not for visa) because I watch out for specials and book in advance I pay anything from 700 to 1400 return. Then I run into the people that have come up on bus or train and paid more. Ludicrous

You do not mention your nationality. If you qualify for visa exempt entry to Vietnam, consider a combined flight and hotel deal Bangkok to HCMC on AirAsia Go.(about 3,000 baht) to which you need to add US$40 for the visa and about US$30 on taxis plus what it costs to get from Pattaya to Don Muang. Note, however, that the consulate in HCMC will want to see an onward flight out of Thailand (or, I believe, a bank statement instead).

Your concern about Malaysia is valid as far as KL is concerned, but Penang is OK (especially if you use an agent). Unfortunately, flights to Penang are not as cheap as the longer distance to KL.

BritTim is correct. Some nationalities get 15 days visa exempt. If you want to chill for few days then hcmc is hard to beat. As for onward flight, you could try by providing proof of funds. Worse comes to worse you could book cheapest flight on the spot. Cross the road and get print out.

The onward flight required is a bummer as many people want to go with the flow. Not to mention obtaining extension.

I did just check that airline. Bkk- Vientiane $190usd. I don't regard that remotely good value.

Juice, your correct. It won't. Spend night top mansion, nice joint 640baht. Walk around corner to centra plaza. Minibus leaves on the hour. 8am is OK. 7 even better. Easy run to border. IMO avoid the tuk tuk. Maybe have a chat to someone and share taxi. Enjoy bar in udon

I think the first flight available arrives at around 7:30. Then taking the van from the airport would put you at the bridge by 9:00 or earlier which would give you enough time to make it to the consulate by 11:30.
