BANGKOK: -- The Thai Journalists Association (TJA) yesterday called for famous TV host Sorayuth Sutassanachinda to stop his role as a TV host after he was convicted to serve 13 years and four months in prison.

The Channel 3’s TV host was found guilty of bribing a state employee that had worked for a state-owned TV station, Channel 9 or now becomes Modernine TV, to cheat air time revenues amounted to over 13O million baht.

TJA vice president and spokesman Manop Thip-osod said that Sorayuth should revise his role in the media following the court judgement.

He said although the case has not been finalised, Sorayuth should halt his TV role.

Sorayuth is now a TV anchor for a popular Channel 3 news programme so called Ruang Rao Chao Nee, and several news analysis and news programmes at Channel 3, on weekdays and weekends.

He said TJA will issue another statement concerning the matter.

Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand secretary-general Mana Nimitmongkol said the case is a clear-cut example of corruption which involves public and private sectors.

He praised the court’s judgment and said the case would help boost public confidence in the justice system.

Mana also echoed a call by TJA for Sorayuth to show his responsibility to the public.

He said although the case is pending appeals and has not been finalized and his Ruang Rao Chao Nee programme has not been removed from the Channel 3’s chart, Sorayuth as a media figure should show his responsibility to the public since the court has pinpointed his guilt.

So can we assume that not only will he not do any bird, he'll also keep his job?

Definitely. He should get life with hard labour but he wont

I don't really understand this story. Why would on air personality need to bribe an official regarding air time revenues? That seems like something an executive or owner of the company would want.
