BANGKOK: -- Channel 3's board of directors agreed last night to allow famous TV host Sorayuth Sutassanachinda to continue his news and news talk hosting role, although he was convicted to serve 13 years and four months in prison with no suspension.

Board spokesman and acting managing director of Bangkok Entertainment, operator of Channel 3, Mr Surin Kritayapongphan said all board directors shared common understanding that since the case has not yet final and is pending appeals, they agreed to give him support in the hosting role at the TV station.

He said the TV host has been working with Channel 3 for over the past 12 years, the board knew exactly what sort of man he is and has confidence in him.

He said the TV host’s court case happened before he joined Channel 3.

He then said the board agreed to allow him continue hosting role and his news reporting and news talk programme will continue unaffected by the first court’s ruling.

Commenting on the cancellation of yesterday “เจาะข่าวเด่น” (Chao Khao Den) news talk programme yesterday afternoon, Mr Surin said it was suspended just because Mr Sorayuth was not yet ready for the programme which was a temporary incident.

He added Sorayuth’s hosting role at TV 3 is final and all his programmes will be resumed as usual.

However he said Channel 3 is willing to listen to all criticism from its audience.

Mr Sorauth continued his popular “เรื่องเล่าเช้านี” (Ruang Rao Chao Nee)news reporting programme at 6 am today.

He reported his court case which he was sentenced by the Criminal Court to 20 years but reduced by one-third to 13 years and four months.

He told his audience that he would exercise his right to appeal the case under the justice system.

" to serve 13 years and 4 months in prison without suspension" ! Not a word about the crime he committed.

Channel 3 remains confident, yes confident that him appearing on screen will bring in more money.

Money is the only reason they have confidence in him.

The shameless greedy people at CH3 see nothing wrong with continuing the employment of a convicted

thief and a cheat criminal as their front news anchor man, this is send the message to the Thai

people saying we don't care

what the court has ruled, for us, he's is still a personality we're proud to display and associate with...

A shame on you CH3.....

I'd like to see him announce " And in the news today" before flashing some jazz hands and going " Ta-Dah!!!"

Ch 3 is setting a fine example...an example that a felony conviction of one of their employees means nothing as long as that employee is popular among some viewers and still profitable to Ch 3. Profits rule.

I wonder if he got to say, and in other news, "yesterday I was sentenced to serve 13 years and 4 months in prison without suspension".

Thailand. The country that just keeps on making me laugh. thumbsup.gif

No offense, sir, but our western sensibilities encourage us to think that it is this person or that person or this company or that company who are bad! But, the truth is that we must generalize more.

It is the lifeblood of Thai society this blatant disregard for principle. You will find it nearly everywhere you look. Politics, judiciary, business, education, media, families. Everywhere.

We should not expect a media organization to be significantly different from the society is represents and of which it is comprised. I know we want to believe that it's only a small number of these unprincipled people, but the truth is less friendly.

Morals, Scruples, Ethics, Honesty, Fairness and Facts are all substituted for the complete polar opposite in LoS......and whatever you do, please do not try to discuss with a local partner male or female any of this. It will end in a fight.....they just don't get it.

I tried and gave up after 2 minutes....

regarding this case - losing face will be part of the keeping his job nonsense somewhere in all this....

Reminds me of the actress who smashed into a police car and killed the policeman. So very sorry, OK how much to forgive? Money paid, business as usual.

Quote: Mr Surin Kritayapongphan said all board directors shared common understanding that since the case has not yet final and is pending appeals, they agreed to give him support in the hosting role at the TV station. - This is because Mr Sorayuth is part of the upper class and political elite, all old pals together. He will be well supported and I guess his appeal that is not so appealing to many, will be the longest in history. He will never serve even one day in jail and it will be business as usual. So his fans have no need to fret about him.
