The whole Thai Visa Application/Extension/RenewalProcess

Featured Replies

Is there not some way Mods can make a post in BOLD Capital Letters so that TV members understand that there is no such thing as a "Retirement Visa"???

Camerata's Guide is excellent on Residence. Wondering one of you wise guys could not post an algorithm for travellers/tourists/aspirants to residence/marriage/retirement/work guys etc. etc that shows the options and requirements processes and forms at each turn???? ie. You arrive on a Tourist Visa: What can you do/request?. If you want to stay? You have a Non-O A and want to retire here..same..there's a simple set of options, requirements and rules. Accompanying documents required for each stage/process. Hardly rocket science! But requires some work!! Maybe silly idea. Let people work it out for themselves? Except they don't!!

It's pointless doing that, tomorrow they come up with another thingy, rule or regulation or they start applying so called "rules that were always there".

For marriage visa extensions, just to give you an example, i understand that the office in Jomtien sometimes requires pictures of the happily married couple in bed. Not naked of course. For now.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

There also seems to be some differences between the many immigration offices spread throughout Thailand.

I'm sure it has been considered. No doubt the impact on the number of posts would have been taken into account thumbsup.gif

"It's pointless doing that ..."

Mainly because no one would read it or assume it was sufficiently up to date.

Most questions that are asked now could easily be answered by reading the 1001 other posts asking basically the same questions, but the assumption is that the latest poster's situation is somehow different (it rarely is) from anyone else's.

As far as terminology is concerned, it's a losing battle. There are people who have been here 10 years or more on extensions of stay and still think it's a visa. If you try to correct them, you're accused of being pedantic because it doesn't really matter whether it's one or the other ... even though it often does matter.

Of course, if anything happens because the farang applicant is clueless about how things work, he will always need to start a thread about "new rules" or an "immigration scam." It's sort of a like a never ending sitcom ... Mr. Bean does immigrations.

... Mr. Bean does immigrations.

You're right about that.

There also seems to be some differences between the many immigration offices spread throughout Thailand.

And sometimes there are differences between individual immigration officers at the same immigration office.
