EPPO urges public to conserve energy

BANGKOK, 2 March 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Energy will continue to promote energy conservation among the Thai public through cooperation with electrical appliance suppliers.

Energy Minister Gen Anantaporn Kanjanarat presided over the agreement-signing ceremony between the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) and 10 major electrical appliance suppliers.

These suppliers have more than 650 branches combined in leading shopping malls across the country, such as the Mall, Tesco Lotus, and Big C, as well as online stores through www.tarad.com. They are required to properly display a number 5 energy efficiency sticker on each product.

There are currently two types of number 5 stickers. The first sticker is specifically for eight products that have the highest level of efficiency, and the second one is for 26 others that have low electricity consumption.

Why ? Oil is cheaper and more abundant than ever.

Value of oil doesn't affect generation capacity. Thailand needs more power generation capacity and by holding down energy consumption it gains time to build new facilities.

With no water and now looking like not enough energy, wouldnt you think the money being handed out by the government, should be put into that infrastructure first?....instead of millions handed out for Village Heads to decide what to spend it on?....

Lower the prices of inverter equipped appliances, especially air con units. Incentives to install or upgrade to such units, especially hotels and condo buildings. Immediate big electricity conservation!
