Marraige Visa 90 days reporting time?

Featured Replies

I am confused about this Visa. Isnt it supposed to be like if you are married to a Thai, you can stay there forever without any 90 days hassles or am i missing something? I thought once you are married to a thai you are a permanent citizen of Thailand

You could not be much more wrong.

What have you been reading

I do not know where you got your information but it is wrong.

Marriage to a Thai person does NOT provide citizenship.

I see, please correct me if I am wrong here. What is that Visa about?

There is no Marriage Visa!

You either have a Non Immigrant O (Multi entry) Visa issued by a Thai Embassy/Consulate based on being married to a Thai.

With that Visa you must leave and re-enter Thailand every 90 days.

OR

You have an extension of stay issued by a local Immigration office based on marriage to a Thai.

You must report every 90 days to a local Immigration office.

I see, please correct me if I am wrong here. What is that Visa about?

  • People often wrongly call an extension of stay based on marriage a "Marriage Visa".
  • You are given permission to stay for 1 year and don't need to leave.
  • You must report to immigration every 90 days.
  • At the end of each year you can apply for a new 1 year extension of stay.
  • You can stay here indefinitely as long as the extension is renewed every year.
  • Being married does not give you citizenship or permanent residency, just the right to apply for an extension of stay.
