CDC President needs 15 days to summarize key issues of draft charter

BANGKOK, 3 March 2016 (NNT) – The President of the Constitution Drafting Commission needs two weeks to summarize the draft charter for public distribution.

CDC President Meechai Richupan said today that the charter drafters have been relieved of their duties after more clarification was gained about the definition of the majority vote of eligible voters for the public referendum on the draft Constitution.

Mr. Meechai said that the CDC is also pleased to hear that the government will launch an active campaign to encourage as many voters as possible to exercise their right.

Concerning the suggestion that the Election Commission should make use of newspapers in distributing the details of the draft charter, he said that the distribution of a charter with more than 100 articles to all households will take a lot of time and involve a high budget.

Therefore, Mr. Meechai said that only key information of the draft charter should be summarized for this purpose, while adding that the CDC needs 15 days, after it submits the final rewrite of the draft Constitution on March 29, to do so.
