Some weeks ago I was to meet a friend, coming in on a flight from Germany. We agreed to meet at Don Mueang, he was to text me to keep me posted on his progress.

I knew his flight had arrived (flightaware.com), welcomed him, etc., waited for his text he was approaching DM…nothing happened. We did meet up eventually – by chance – but while he received all my text messages (8) I did not receive one off him.

The next day, we were back home in issan, a good 24 hours after, my phone went of like a truck reversing… and in came all his messages.

Ok, this is Thailand and AIS, I will live with that, BUT…

last night (22:30h oz time) I get a phone call from someone I had texted to at 16:58h – 5 ½ hours earlier - regarding something he wanted to sell. The guy wasn't happy. Neither was I.

So this is THE telstra australia I am with, but…

can someone shed some light, please, on what actually happens to text messages as they move along.

Any reply not quoting 'god' will be appreciated.

text messages are stored on your Telco ( Telstra 's ) providers server. Depending on the server configuration and the amount of traffic or texts at the time will determine the delay or instant transmit of your text.

You may have a delay of 4 hours today in getting an sms and tomorrow it may be immediately.

Well interesting topic....using an iPhone to send pictures to my sons iPhone without mobile data on but connected to house wifi, cannot do through the text message/imessage, switching to mobile data sends instantly.

TGF has a hit and miss sending me a text message for when I'm to pick her up at the station, it must be through iMessage with data on, same goes for me, if I've gone out with data switched off i get the message when i arrive home or switch data on...

Im with Amysim they use the Optus network...and why do i switch my data off? i hardly need data on my phone these days so unlimited calls with 1 gig of data i pay the princely sum of $25 every 30 days.

glad you find it an interesting topic, does not seem to 'riveting' to others wink.png .

don't have an iphone, use android, the txt message clearly goes out via telecom carrier, i.e. AIS when i am in thailand. message sent, ticked off......... but does not arrive until hours later. v / v sent from anything, i don't know who german telecom roams with here, but a delay of 26 hours?

is someone looking at this to decide if i am worthy of receiving it?

Last year I received an SMS from AIS that was sent a couple of years ago!!!!

I asked them what had happened, but they had no idea.

If you have a smartphone then use whatsapp, messenger, line etc as it will tell you when its delivered and when its read, if you do not then turn on message confirmation in the text message settings and it will also tell you when recieved and when read.
