My Thai wife is going for a tourist visa interview on the 16th. Someone told her that she can choose to be interviewed in Thai or English. She ask what language I chose and I do not remember the application asking. I did the DS160 for her and checked my copy for that question. Did not find. Also checked the interview confirmation and could not find where language was mentioned.

Does anyone know if that is a question asked during the application process or something you choose after you arrive at the embassy for the interview? As I said I do not remember the question and she fears that I chose English. If so, she wants to cancel the interview and reschedule requesting the interview be done in Thai. It may be that when I scheduled the interview they ask what language and it does not show up on the confirmation page.

How do I check the language chosen and change it if it is wrong?

Thanks.

Wife is giving me a lot of grief over the possible language problem. sad.png The kicker is there may not be a problem. unsure.png

How do I verify the language I chose? You would think that would appear on the appointment confirmation, but I am not seeing it.

Thanks.

Don't worry about it. You're correct, they do not ask you on the DS160 which language you want to interview in. That's because all of the agents who do the interviewing are Americans who are fluent in Thai. She just needs to speak to the agent in Thai, and that's what he'll speak to her (or maybe they'll ask her when she gets there, I can't remember). My girlfriend was just interviewed a few weeks ago; she said the guy spoke very, very good Thai, and spoke quite quickly, too. She had no problems communicating with him.

My wife worried about this too. In the event the interview is merely window-dressing. The 'fluent-in-Thai' interviewers asked some totally bland questions in pigeon-Thai. Short of saying 'I will be attending a bomb-making school in LA' she will walk it.
