Qatar and UAE admire Thai workers

Exploiting other people's poverty is exactly what is wrong with every society today. I wouldn't count my money too soon. There is a Worldwide Revolution in progress if you haven't noticed. Over 2000 years a man with a long beard said something I have never forgotten- "The poor shall inherit the Earth". You might want to think about that while you continue to exploit your workers.

Damn straight that they should be admired. I wouldn't swap my Thai workers for anyone else. I have taken them throughout S.E Asia and Africa and I currently have them in PNG working on a project with me. They are cheap, loyal and hard workers. In return they give me high quality work and a lot of money in my pocket!

You must be so proud of yourself.

What's the ploblem man? As long as they are free to go home i don't see any issues.

It's called "doing business". Every boss makes profit on his labourers, welcome to the real world.....

The fact that they have been with me for over 6 years is because they make 4 times more money than their peers in Thailand. Costs me $4000USD a month to be exact for each worker. Very cheap labour for mechanical maintenance labour specialising in cranes.

But yes, I make a fortune off them. If I didn't I would not be running a successful and profitable business and if I was not running a successful and profitable business I would not employ Thai's that were making 4 times more than their peers.

I am very very proud of myself. My Thai workers are very proud of me too and their families are very grateful for allowing me to give them a standard of living they would never have gotten before.

I dont understand why you are so "very, very proud" of yourself exploiting your own workers. Doesnt matter that they are Thai or for that matter any nationality. None of us are understand why you are so proud of cheap worker exploitation.

Basically as I see it you are extremely happy to use these people for your own selfish wants and desires to make in your own words, "a fortune"

Your attitude is nothing that I would be proud about and for sure wouldnt be boasting about it to complete strangers in an open forum. wow....

I'm curious to know what you think djjamie should be doing. Seriously. Perhaps you could give us two hypothetical situations -

one, about how he should have structured his business in the first place so that his workers would not be exploited, giving due attention to his ability to compete for contracts;

and two, how he can restructure his current operation to avoid criticism of exploitation. Please be as detailed as you can, as I feel I have much to learn from you.

Qatar and the UAE are looking for Thai because the Indians are now being paid a little more than nothing. These countries look for the cheapest people they can get. I have worked in both countries and conditions for these nationalities are not good.

Very true....not to mention the fact that, in many cases, the workers are not free to leave. Many (if not all) sign 2-3 year contracts and have their passports taken away from them until the expiration of the contract.

Agreed. Having to hand over their passports is illegal but they do it and no one bothers. They get a real shit deal. Reading the article you get the impression they are protected but you and I know they are not.

Yep, funny the article does not mention this modern take on slave trade being employed in the countries mentioned.

Its easy, Dont boast about using people to make your fortune. And especially on a public board with strangers. To quote "I make a fortune off them." And then he goes on about the cheap labor even telling us strangers how much each worker costs. A really demeaning post and demeaning way to talk about human beings.

Be assured in our current society it is completely right. Earn a fortune on the shoulder's of others. People admire other people for their wealth, they look dignified upon them. They think they also will become a capitalist soon. And if you are not awestruck silenced one will be called jealous.

So, in our world, this particular guy shouldn't do anything different than exactly that: Exploit the workers.

But to call it honor or to be proud? Ehm, yeah, no. Maybe in a small circle of people with the same level of wealth. As I wrote earlier, in the yacht club with my fellow millionaires I also laugh about jokes how easy it is to make a fortune by exploiting others. We feel very dominant then.

But sometimes, you will get wrecked if you think you are something better:

you may be right, still, they will make more than 300thb/day, which is the norm here for basic "cannon fodder"...

my thai friend's staff, all female, is ultra loyal and very-hard-working and they earn 6000-8000/month (6 days on 7).

saddening.................

doing business and exploitation are 2 different things. my now ex-workers were paid a decent salary and got their share (bonus) at the end of the year. i did not make substantially more money than they did. it's called "ethics".............. coffee1.gif
