Brit, Russian busted for multi-year overstays

Chonburi Immigration Police arrested a Briton and a Russian in Pattaya who combined had overstayed their visas by nearly four years.

British national Neil Truslove, 46, was picked up during a patrol Feb. 24 on Soi Chaiyapruek 12 in Jomtien Beach. His passport revealed he had overstayed his visa by 683 days.

The same day, patrol officers on Pratamnak Hill also apprehended Russian Vladislav Ankin, 31, who had overstayed 713 days.

Both men were arrested and processed for immediate deportation.

they were breaking the law so they are criminals

they were not tourists

it is not difficult to ensure your documentation is up to date during your stay here; foreign borders and immigration offices are easily accessible.

if foreigners didnt break the law and stay here illegally the police wouldnt need to check documents.

Maybe not crime of the century. But it's Immigration police's job to keep people legal in visa terms and other police divisions' job to catch "real criminals" - as they do.

It's so good to see how TVs members attitudes have changed towards overstayers. In the past certain ex-pats got so toxic on this subject as if their lives depended on it.

I myself besides others have ambushed these cretins views over the years and can really see the change. It's a breath of fresh-air to be able to read it's no longer so serious to TVs armchair dictators like in the past. I realise now it will be a wake up call for defaulters as every overstayer has had enough warnings and now will be hunted down for taking the piss.

Wish we could concentrate on the sad bastards who bully our elderly in different parts of Thailand like the old 70 year old gentleman beat up in Pattaya. Now that to me would reap more benefits than attacking people with overstay problems.

thats why it really hard for a thai to get to the USA, SO MANY LIE TO IMMIGRATION AND NEVER RETURN.

Actually, I know of a whole district where, if you want, you can catch about 50 illegal thais, working in nearly every single thai restaraunt in the area. Im sure there are many parts of the world like this.

Or maybe for thai restaraunt to open they will have to hire 3 Americans for every thai they hire. oh, i like that idea better. it will help stimulate the economy... yeah..

They occupy the hotels, restaurants and even casinos in Vegas. Send their azzes packin'. Their money is not spent in the US anyway.

These guys only have to remember one date, to keep themselves legal.

Glad many more overstayers are now sorting themselves out with their visa and pay their fine, so they can return to Thailand legitimately.

Somebody who has overstayed by 300 days has broken the law deliberately 300 times!. The few I met in the old days in India and Thailand were always criminals in other ways such as junkies, or on the lam from their own county, or had an Interpol red or amber flag on them, or were sex offenders, etc. So they were crims two times over - once in their home country and again here in Thailand. Those that overstay here and work etc to not pay taxes or contribute in any meaningful way. They are also really stupid because what ever their status there is usually a way around the problem which they have not bothered with. There is another category of over stayer criminal: those that actively pursue lives of crime here, fraud, deception, theft, financial scams, and even drugging and mugging.

Even following the rules 100%, there is never a guarantee when you live in the third world.

Thailand could change the rules any time on any number of rules, thus causing chaos for Thai-foreigner families.

No matter how long you have been in Thailand, if you do not have an exit strategy, you can never bet on the future.

If the US and China come to a head in the South China Sea, Thailand would probably side with China.

Thailand needs your money, not you. If the country ever gets to a point they do not need your money I would say watch out, the rules could change drastically

Just the fact that 2 people in the news get deported is news in itself as Thailand has never made a concerted effort in the deportation of overstay department.

You have to ask yourself why the change of thought after all these years that they would actually seek out over stayers?

Yes, absolutely and many of them are 'real' criminals. I'm very much in favour of this, hopefully they'll catch the 'real' criminals as well, but actually, who is to say that these two weren't 'real' criminals anyway?

The next 2 - 3 months we will wake up to news like this every week , I actually love every minute of it, if we can remove most of the over-stayers I'm pretty sure the criminal activity among foreigners in Pattaya will start dropping down fast.
