S. Korea & Thailand discuss immigration policies after S. Korea rejects 30,000 Thais last year

Featured Replies

Allow Thais visa exempt to a wealthy country like S. Korea (90 days visa exempt) or Japan and the rural poor will try their luck.

They can earn like 50k/month for manual labor which would earn them 9k here.

Next house to ours:

Husband working illegally in S.K. for more than a year in a metal workshop.

Once escaped a raid by literally jumping over the fence.

Wife (in her twenties): 5 months illegal work until caught and deported. I never asked what work it was.

Two silly attempts to get in again. Once deported from Seoul before entry (leaving in the afternoon, return next afternoon), once stopped in Suvarnabhumi.

Lost a six digit amount on these attempts.

I told her that it will not work. Changing first name and getting new passport is not smart anymore.

She tried it with kind of an "ED" visa for learning Korean with an invitation letter from some university which cost a reasonable sum.

Her sister (living in the village) has a similar history. Worked together these 5 months.

BTW: the wife's father lives and works legally in S.K. and as usual tried to get the others over.

About time.

Other Countries need to do the same as S. Korea. Thailand wants Westerners out so badly. They need to receive reciprocal treatment plus interest when they travel abroad to Europe and the America's. I think 50+ pages to do a visa extension, several trips to the office, interviews and photos, copies of copies, is crossing the line by a few meters.

IMO The world should follow how S.Korea handles Thai travelers. big thumbs up to Korea.

One assumes reading your hatred filled post, that you dont live in Thailand, and if you do, if you hate the place so much why are you still here, or is it a case you used to live in Thailand and you were "burned" by a minium educated farm girl from the north east ?

Why is wanting reciprocal treatment hatred? I love what S.Korea did, its my opinion. I am just a girl from the west trying to be assertive. No need to attack my grammar next, or for you to assume anything about me.

A min educated farm girl? ok, I think you could expand that to include all ...

Yes, I have been here longer then most, I play by the rules. I have decided my future will not and cannot ever be a part of Thailands future. Yes I am leaving when I am ready to leave, hopefully before its to late.

I lied about something in my post, I am sure you know what.

When the differences in income are so bizarre, people do anything. So do Thais. While earning 15000 Baht here, the prospects of 50.000 Baht and more in Korea is too compelling.

I know a girl working in a "massage parlour" in Korea starting with 60.000 Baht and earning 100.000 Baht a month now. And she is not sleeping with the men! Girls who do this earn 400.000 Baht. Nearly all girls deliberately overstay their permitted staying time.

Worth noting: they are all coming with no visa in their passports. The Koreans just stamp 90 days at arrival point.

In addition, undercover agencies paving the ways for the adventurous girls making fortunes on their back.

When you make it so damned easy how to wonder the Thais make use of it!!!

But Korean immigration woke up at last, performing interviews at the airport now and raiding the “parlours”. But as long as they do not request for a visa the loophole will persist.
