Troops and police raid crime targets in Nakhon Pathom



BANGKOK: -- A combined force of soldiers, police and local government officials yesterday raided eight targets in Nakhon Pathom and seized a large number of firearms and ammunition, gold, drugs and cash.

The raid was in compliance with the government’s policy to clamp down on influential figures or mafia bosses.

The targets are locations suspected of being criminal havens classified as dangerous and threatens the internal security of the area.

More than 50 handguns and rifles were seized in the simultaneous raids along with more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition.

The raid is part of a coordinated effort by authorities to clamp down on notorious criminal organizations deemed detrimental to internal security of Nakhon Pathom province.

Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda said that the raid was brought about after an investigation led authorities to believe that there was a major crime syndicate operating in the area.

The syndicate’s operations involved illegal weaponry and narcotics prompting the joint force of Army and police personnel to target the eight suspected locations.

Investigators managed to discover that these locations were under the authority of at least six mafia bosses.

A substantial amount of physical evidence was able to be seized at seven of the eight locations raided.

On top of the weapons and ammunition, a stash of ‘Yaba’ (methamphetamine) and ‘Ice’ (Ecstacy) as well as numerous underground lottery chits and football betting computer records were also seized.

Two million baht in cash along with a cache of gold bars weighing 1,150 baht (17.53 kg) and a number of automobiles and motorcycles were also confiscated.

Meanwhile the commandant of the Ninth Region Infantry Division Maj Gen Thamnoon Vithi said the raid in Nakhon Pathom area was the first location targeted and the six leading mafia bosses were part of one crime syndicate.

He said further checks would have to be made on the seized weapons to determine if they had legal permits.

As for the luxury automobiles, the commandant stated that suspicions are that they were illegally imported and detailed checks are underway to determine their origin.

So they raided police stations and army barracks. Anyone could have told them this was the place of origion for most crimes.

Bring it on!!!

And no mention of anyone at all being arrested??? And what of the supposed mafia bosses running all that illicit stuff???

Should get down to some of those dodgy islands and deal with organized crime. They are well-known but seem untouchable.

I would certainly think, the Army and the police would know very well where to go looking for "mafia" figures when they want to find them....

They are untouchable......would be interesting to see just how far up the chain their contacts are

2 million in cash and 17.53 klg of gold bars , wow ! how much would 17.53 klg of gold be worth ?

32.15 oz of gold in a Kilo. X price as I type = 1269 U.S. dollars X 17.5..... = 713,971.125 U.S. Dollars.

Not as much I thought it would be....but not easy to carry around.

Only as long as they don't get caught playing bridge...

So ... six bosses were identified ... was anybody arrested? I read it twice.

Does any of these "influential figures" ever get convicted and spend serious time in jail? I NEVER read about convictions. Only arrests.
