The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) will continue providing free breakfasts to students at primary schools in rural areas for another two-and-a-half years, Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Chum Sounry said yesterday.

Mr. Sounry made the announcement following a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong and WFP country director Gianpietro Bordignon at the ministry, during which they discussed extending the UN agency’s activities in Cambodia to ensure school children continued receiving nutritious meals.

The WFP began providing free breakfasts at schools in July 2011, with a budget of $145 million for the project. Another $46 million has been earmarked to extend the project from July of this year to December 2018, Mr. Sounry said yesterday.
