Bottled drinking water is sufficient

BANGKOK: -- Drinking bottled water producers assure the government that bottled water won't be running short although the country is going to face the worst water shortage problem in 20 years.

The assurance came after the Internal Trade Department (ITD) called bottled water producers from all regions for a meeting to discuss the water situation yesterday.

At the meeting, the ITD was assured by the producers that they have sufficient water supplies to produce drinking water and that they have no plan to increase the price of their products.

The water producers also promised to increase their stockpile of bottled waters by 20 percent to ease consumers’ concern over water shortage.

Meanwhile director-general of the Department of Water Resource Mr Supote Jirmsawatpong denied an allegation concerning fraud in his department’s budget for artesian wells drillings.

His denial followed complaints filed to the Office of the Auditor General of Thailand that officials from the department take 10-30 percent off budget for each well drilling project.

He insisted that there is no corruption in the department and vowed that any official found to be involved in the fraud will face strong disciplinary punishment.

Drinking water companies assure enough water for consumption in summer

BANGKOK, 10 March 2016 (NNT) - Producers of drinking water are set to increase their stock of drinking water products by 10%, in the event of prolonged water shortages.

The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) joined a meeting with 19 drinking water manufacturers, who claimed to have adequate supplies for consumers this summer.

In the attendance were some of the country’s major producers like Boonrawd Brewery, Sermsook, and Thai Beverage. DIT Director-General Wiboonrak Ruamrak said most companies produce drinking water from groundwater sources.

Prices are expected to remain unchanged, as the cost of obtaining raw water is still the same. However, the DIT has asked these manufacturers to increase their clean water stocks by at least 10% in case of emergency demand.

They have also been told by the DIT to make sure their drinking water products are continuously available to consumers throughout the summer. The Ministry of Commerce has now included bottles of drinking water among the list of items to be monitored for fair trade.

Nothing more likely to start a wave of panic buying than as assurance that there's enough supplies ....

There was a bottled water shortage during the flood, how are they going to produce enough bottled water during a severe drought?

I'm certainly going to start stocking up.

There's always option of importing more bottled water. Already see lots of imported brands in the marketplace. Yes at higher cost, though.

Whenever someone insists there is "no corruption" you can bet there is corruption.

Seems at last the "Government" are finally waking up to the reality of the situation. I really do think though that they still have not grasped how serious this year....and NEXT YEAR is going to get.

How much bottled water is going down the drain all over Thailand this coming Songkran festival ?

How long can you store bottled drinking water until it's undrinkable?

Almost indefinitely ?

How long can you store bottled drinking water until it's undrinkable?

In the white /clear plastic bottles (Singha etc).. A long long time.. In the blue/clear (minere etc) not so long.. This is based on using the bottles refilled with water.. The blue ones ALWAYS get a nasty chemical taste and smell after 4-5 days...

Think they should cancel Songkran...

Bet by the third day you will not be able to get even bottled water to shower withgigglem.gif

So you can all rest easy.

I think some of the generals are starting to S***t themselves

you mean we have no water AND no corruption!!!

Whenever someone insists there is "no corruption" you can bet there is corruption.

When the government assures that there will be no drinking water shortages and supplies will be fine, that's when I start worrying!

During the flood, the issue was transporting the water, not producing it.

Come on you lot, have you not heard the news

“Trust me, We’re Thai” They say.
