DPM brushes off former PMs criticism of draft charter

BANGKOK, 11 March 2016 (NNT) – The deputy prime minister has affirmed that the draft constitution will be able to sustainably remedy the nation’s problems while brushing off criticisms from a former prime minister.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has reminded that a former prime minister’s criticisms of the draft charter were only his personal views and would not likely discredit the current administration, which has been able to maintain peace and stability in the nation.

He affirmed that the new charter was written with close care to ensure the greatest benefit to the nation while reiterating his suggestion that appointed senators be utilized during the transitional period away from the current government to ensure that ongoing reforms are maintained. He urged all citizens to take part in the charter’s public referendum.

On action against influential people, the deputy prime minister said he has tasked the chief of the defense forces to compile all information into a report for the army commander in his capacity as secretary-general of the National Council for Peace and Order.

While acknowledging that some influential people may be military officers, the deputy premier stated that those caught would be made to sign a memorandum confirming the end of their illicit behavior before being placed in the justice system.

Hmmmmm. ...

Notice that too. Maybe he is remorseful and perhaps fear the backlash when he no longer in power.

AND.... he continued: "while reiterating his suggestion that appointed senators be utilized during the transitional period away from the current government to ensure that ongoing reforms are maintained. He urged all citizens to take part in the charter’s public referendum."

Now, let us see this bit: appointed PMs.... Appointed MPS voted Khun Abbhisit as PM.

Appointed MPs as a transitional period??? Sounds like the last circus... Who do you think the appointed MPs will vote for next PM? Or else,,, adjustment time ! whistling.gif

Ergo, why bother voting on the charter. The referendum is Hobsonian, another dog and pony show to convey the appearance of Democracy.

The deputy prime minister has affirmed that the draft constitution will be able to sustainably remedy the nation’s problems

But Prayut recently said, "a constitution is not a special medicine nor a formula to fix Thailand’s problems." If the 2016 draft charter passes the referendum by the same margin as the 2007 constitution of 57%-59% of votes cast and 33% of total eligible voters, nothing will be remedied.

Admiral Prajun Tampratheep and his friend General Prem are not going to be happy.

“The receptivity of the masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.”

Is Abhisit a convicted fugitive???

I predict that the silence from billd766 will be deafening. For all junta supporters this should be a sobering read.

"Is Abhisit a convicted fugitive?"

He probably will be if he carries on like that for much longer!

DPM Prawit is getting a lot of work lately, more than PM Prayuth. Is this now dual leadership or is the PM busy doing something else? During President George W Bush's tenureship he would often be playing golf or out fishing with his dad. I wonder if the PM has cut back his busy schedule to enjoy life a little.

IMHO I don't think this government actually wants him back nor do I thing he actually wants to come back either.

I also don't think he is remorseful either though I do think that he is scrabbling to retain what support he has now. That is only my personal opinion FWIW.

Wrong yet again.

Why would I be silent?

Do you know of any other former PM's who have whined?

By my reckoning, at least 5 former Prime Ministers have been critical of the current government. Outwardly, Thaksin and Abhisit. Implicitly with their remarks, Prem and Anand. And naturally, Yingluck, who has the good sense to hold her tongue and smile.

You attribute that to "good sense"? The only definitive statements I can call her making were lies, and some perjury (before the definition was changed).

Perhaps you could read her statement from Aug 2015, which was a reasonable critique of the Charter and a call for restoration of democracy.

"Appointed MPS voted Khun Abbhisit as PM" ?

Has history been rewritten again ?

Or maybe he couldn't be bothered naming the <deleted> let alone adding that he is a PhD, former police officer, convicted fugitive and wanted on 15+ outstanding court cases.

Maybe they are all a little scared of their own previous past connections.

How funny you think it's Thaksin clap2.gif

Who else could it have been at that time?

Abhisit made his response yesterday several days after Thaksin and he disagreed with it too.

The difference is that Abhisit did his complaining while he was in Thailand which is more than your "hero" Thaksin did.

Please also bear in mind that Abhisit was charged with murder in Thailand but he stayed here to have his day in court unlike your "hero" who ran away from justice and hasn't returned yet.

Ran away? He was in New York at a UN meeting. Return? To face justice? Like Yingluck? Come on, pls make your assumptions more detailed like Rubl or scorecard. We do like to debate with a little more insight.

Do you ever think of doing a little research before you post rubbish and lies?

There is more out there if you want to look for it even if it goes against your post.

But what was he doing in New York?

He had already quit politics and being PM (for 47 days).

He certainly was NOT affirmed as the caretaker PM by the highest person in the land. Certainly much higher Than Thaksin can ever be.

Why don't YOU do some research and prove me wrong?

No, I like your research better.

Yawn - constitutions in Thailand are as worthless as used toilet paper. The military has shown us time and time again that it has no respect for them whatsoever.
