Solar power project improves Deep South safety

BANGKOK, 11 March 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency has declared its solar power project a success, as the renewable energy has helped improve safety in risk-prone areas in the Deep South.

Director-General of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Thammayot Srichuai said the project received 2.2 billion baht in support from the Energy Conservation Promotion Fund between 2014 and 2015.

Solar power systems were installed at different spots in the southernmost provinces such as the Internal Security Operations Command, the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center and crime-prone areas. The project has reportedly helped lessen spending and power usage as well as the crime incidence in the region.

Mr. Thammayot added that the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency had planned to promote the use of LED light bulbs and power-efficient air-conditioners in state agencies in the fiscal year 2016 to lower energy consumption by the public sector.

So are they trying to say that because the people are spending less for electric that they are committing fewer crimes? Is that Thai logic?

It seems to me that people don't commit crimes to pay their electric bill.

I think they are inferring that solar power has somehow made criminals see the light.

So there has been crime at the Internal Security Operations Command and the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center?

It would seem there's more important issues there than power usage.
